The end of sugar cane on Maui

Sugar cane production has been a major business on Maui for a long time and it recently ended.  The smoke stacks in the picture below are now turned off.  There are many people who kite and windsurf who could easily get an idea of the strength and direction of the wind by looking at these iconic structures.  Many people are glad the production stopped, especially those who were downwind of the burn and would experience Maui snow which was burned up sugar cane that floated high into the air before usually settling somewhere in north Kihei.  

There are now thousands of acres that used to be sugar cane that sit empty without a use.  I hope that this island does not become over built.  I took this photo with my drone.
