Greetings friends of @gems, welcome to my blog!  I always remember my mother-in-law drinking Noni juice to treat some diseases because popular culture says it cures cancer.

The noni fruit, whose scientific name is Morinda citrofolia Linn, comes from a medium tree in Asia and Polynesia, which has adapted well to the climate here in Venezuela to produce fruit throughout the year.

 Visually similar to the Earl Fruit and popular in Asia, it is prescribed to fight body aches, diabetes and cancer.  But health unions view it cautiously because studies on the fruit are still at an early stage.

  ## Noni use in Southeast Asia

  In Southeast Asia, noni is used in folk medicine to treat various diseases.  In the last decades, there has been a significant increase in the consumption of the fruit and its derivatives.

  However, the consumption of noni is controversial in the country due to the lack of conclusive studies on the fruit and its derivatives.  Much research has shown the toxicity of noni juices and preparations, which can harm the liver.

  ## Main nutrients of noni

  The nutritional composition of noni is not yet complete.  Some scholars claim that phenolic compounds represent the largest group of functional substances present in this fruit.

  Noni also has good amounts of vitamin C, which is why many people stick to noni juice.  The physical-chemical analysis of the ripe fruit showed an average amount of 243.16 mg of vitamin C in 100 grams of pulp.  Therefore, 100 grams of noni has 270% of the recommended amount of vitamin C in one day.

  Noni is controversial due to the lack of conclusive studies on its harm or benefits.  Noni-containing products may not be marketed as food in some countries, as they have not yet been shown to be safe to use.

*** Several case reports published in indexed scientific journals suggest that consumption of noni juice is associated with cases of liver toxicity. ***

  Some studies also suggest that the substances responsible for the toxic effects would be anthraquinones.  The full characterization of noni and its juice has not yet been completed, including in relation to anthraquinones, which were previously believed to be present only in the roots and leaves of this plant.

  ## Benefits of noni fruit under study

  Available studies on the benefits of noni are not yet conclusive regarding its beneficial or harmful health effects.  As it contains substances with antioxidant action, there is a possibility that noni cells protect against the harmful action of free radicals.

  Today, noni has been identified as beneficial in several ways, as it aids in the production of melatonin, relieves chronic pain, reduces fatigue, and even aids in hypertension.  However, there are no definitive studies on the subject.

  Additionally, the noni fruit contains bromelain, an enzyme that aids digestion and is also present in pineapples.  This, combined with its bioflavonoids and anthraquinones (antioxidant substances and digestive stimulants), make it interesting for digestion.


  ## Does Noni help you lose weight?

  It is not possible to know if the noni fruit is thinning, which helps to lose weight or not.  This is because there are no studies that have been able to prove this benefit.

  ### It is important to note that to lose weight in health it is enough to have a balanced diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats, to reduce fats, salt and sugar, eat fewer calories and practice physical activities.

 # How to consume noni, and should I do it?

  As the studies available on noni so far are inconclusive, the benefits of their antioxidants and the harmful effects related to their toxicity are still unclear.  Therefore, it is important to be very careful when consuming noni.

Noni has a very intense taste and smell, which is why it has been consumed with fruits such as grapes, guava, lemon and passion fruit, with the sole purpose of making it more pleasant.
