Sup everyone?! How's it going over there?

Following the trend 👇

*I propose we do presentation posts for epic waves we have around home, so everyone gets to know more waves and whoever surfs there. For these kind of posts, when we're introducing a spot in gerenal, I suggest we use the #newwave hashtag, let me know what you guys think.*

**Let's keep going!** 

Today I'm gonna present a wave that is actually IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE 😎 Few things are better than surfing in your backyard, right?! This wave is called **Coral do Céu** or **Sky's reef**.
It is situated about 2km away from the beach, right behind a big island called Ilha das Garças.

*This is the starting point, it takes about 30/40min paddling to the island and then plus 15min paddling to the spot (a bit left off of the island, just follow the sunshine).*

Yeah, most people are not used to surfing or paddling this far away from the coast, but it is kinda normal for us here in the city, since most spots are located far from the beach. Thankfully we have jetskis nowadays 😅

So lets jump righ into it... 

Coral do Céu is a very shallow and thick lefthander, it has 2 main sections a and believe me, it's a whole lot of water moving upon that reef. I'd say that, from all the waves here in the state, it is the hardest one to surf, staying only behing Avalanche.

For me personaly, the hardest section of the wave is the drop and, by the image above, you can see how steep it is. When the swell aproaches the reef and starts to grow, it looks like the wave is going to break upon you already, anyway, you actually have to paddle further down to be on time for the drop. I'm not gonna lie, it's a scary experience. 😬

Even on a small, day such as on the sequence above, it's always an effort to make a quick drop and bottom turn in time for the barrel. Check this little one out and the effort I had to put in to make the drop 👇

Despite the sick barrels this wave delivers, when the swell is coming straight from the east, the second section usually comes with a huge and strong ramp that can throw you very far if you hit it, or even another section on the barrel if it joints.

On this one for example, I noticed on the drop that it would give a strong ramp. Anyhow, you can see that there's not much water on the reef (left side of the image) and you gotta try to get as far away from the first section to hit the lip so you don't end up on the shallowest part of the reef. It went down this way 👇

This wave was the most important one for me in my apprenticeship to surf slabs, it is definitely different, harder and scarier than all of the others in my region and that taught me a lot. Despite the scary situations I've been through over there I love this spot so much, when I'm there with my friends we're always trying to push our limits.

Coral do céu is pretty constant from august up to november, but last year it kept breaking up until december and we caught good ones over there. The goat @dsimages managed to photograph a very nice sequence of mine throwing a backflip 👇

I hope y'all liked this one fam! I really love this wave, it taught me so much and brought me memories (good and bad ones 😅) that I'll definitely never forget. My backyard is full of treasures and I'm so grateful for it, so I thought would be nice sharing it with you! 🌊
