At the end of 2017 Ubuntu made great changes in the latest version (17.10) The biggest change: they gave up unity! Yes, the famous Ubuntu interface is now history, Ubuntu returns to Gnome. I recently tested the latest version 17.10 on a test computer and I had the impression I'm testing a new operating system. Big changes are also on Gnome. I've been a fan of unity. The operating system I'm using now is Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. As if it was not enough, there were bios corruption issues on Lenovo, Acer and Dell systems. There are other affected systems. More information on the list of affected systems. If you are now trying to download the latest version 17.10 you will be redirected to version 16.04 ! https://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/1710 What do you think of the new Ubuntu changes and problems? Those who use Ubuntu will stay with this operating system or go to something else? Please tell your opinion in a comment below. Enjoy and happy new day !

Actually I'm still be able to download the Ubuntu 17.10.1. The redirect is as always done to the download page, where you find the the 16.04.3 LTS and the 17.10.1 (LTS first, as usual). Yes, the new kernel enabled the intel-spi-* drivers, and this is causing the problem with those BIOSes. But is not Ubuntu to be criticized, as they are just using the latest stable kernel (4.14 has been released only on 12 Nov 2017, after the Ubuntu 17.10). On the release note, Ubuntu has a notice for the users of affected Lenovo and Acer systems.

This is one of the risks of using the last kernel, I know in the meantime solved. My great disappointment is that they have renounced unity ! I've also tested that you can install yourself and use it, but you have to do it.

I hope they did that for the better. I'm using Ubuntu since quite a few years ago and I'm on 16.04 LTS right now and it's great. Definitely not going back to Windows any time soon. With or without Unity. :D

Yes, I think they have good intentions. Let's see something come out in the spring with the new version.
