우리 집 앞은 철새 기러기 도래지
작년 6월, 지금 사는 곳으로 이사온 후 무더운 여름을 한 번 났습니다.

사는 곳은 인천이고, 주변에 논과 밭이 많이 보이는 곳 입니다.

하지만 나름 역세권입니다. 

도보로 집과 지하철 역을 왕복할 만 하거든요^^

이사온 후 첫 번째 겨울을 맞았는데요.

아침에 출근하기 위해 전철역으로 걸어가다 보면 큰 기러기 무리들이 V자 형태를 띄고 끼룩~ 끼룩~ 거리며 머리 위를 지나 날아가는 모습을 자주 목격합니다.

대규모로 많은 수의 기러기 떼가 가까이서 날아가는 모습은 나름 장관입니다. 

아침에 일어났을 때도 집 안에서 가끔씩 들리는 끼룩~ 끼룩~ 소리는 참 듣기 좋습니다.

그렇게 하늘 위를 가로지며 날아가는 기러기 군단만 보다가 요며칠 출근길 한 쪽에 추수가 나 끝나고 서리만 내려 앉은 논 위에 기러기 떼가 모여있는 걸 보곤 합니다.

이런 기러기 떼는 TV에서나 봤지 실제로 집 앞에서 보게될 줄은 몰랐습니다.

저희 집 앞이 철새 도래지 중에 하나였나 봅니다.

이참에 철새 기러기에 대해서 찾아봤습니다.

겨울이 되면 우리나라를 찾아오는 철새 기러기는 저 멀리 시베리아 지역에서 부터 수천 Km 날아온다고 합니다.

겨울이 되면 시베리아의 땅이 꽁꽁 얼어붙어 먹고 마실 것이 부족해지니, 조금은 더 따뜻한 대한민국으로 남하하는 거죠.

기러기 떼들이 하늘을 날아갈 때 V자 형태를 띄며 날아가는데요.

이는 기러기 떼가 비행하는데 소모되는 에너지를 아껴 더 멀리 날아가기 위한 기러기들의 생존법이라고 합니다.

실제로 보면, 수십마리의 무리가 아니고 열 마리 내외인 경우에도 그냥 나는 법이 없고 V자 형태를 띄며 날아가는 걸 볼 수 있습니다. 

2월 경 다시 시베리아로 돌아간다고 하니, 이제 볼 날도 얼마 남지 않았네요.

여름에는 출근하는 길에 백로들이 마중 나와서 커다랗고 흰 날개를 퍼득이며 시원하게 날아가는 모습을 보여주더니, 

겨울에는 기러기 떼들이 마중 나와서 차가운 바람에 멋진 울음소리를 실어 들려줍니다.

그동안 몰랐는데 기러기 떼들이 지나갈 때 단체로 울어대며 발생시키는 그 소리는 참 듣기 좋습니다.

다소 철 지난 말이지만 이 단어가 떠오릅니다.

회사 출근 후 퇴근까지 계속 모니터만 봐야하는데, 출근길 그나마 자연을 좀 볼 수 있어 다행이라 생각합니다.^^
