"The water of life." Prometheus spoke. "After a time, you will transcend it. You will be young forever. And your people will live in peace." He waved his hand over a wall of water and it expanded into a large pool. The surface was crystal clear and perfectly flat. "You can drink as much as you want and it will be as fresh as it was when you drank it. You can bathe in it and it will rejuvenate you. You can sleep in the water. There is no need to sleep. You can never be hungry or thirsty. You can be immersed in ice forever. You will ascend into rejuvenation."

"You really are gods." I said. "How do you do all of this?"

"I am the strongest of us all. Stronger than all. But you could be even stronger. I can give you the gift of life forever."

"But you broke my necklace."

"Legend tells of a bond between you and three puppets. A bond which gives you the ability to wear your twin as a mask. I broke the bond."

"And what's the story of the puppets?"

At last, I felt like I had gotten Prometheus to talk, but he seemed content. He was looking for something more than answers and I wasn't in the right mood to give them. I moved deeper into the cave and came across a narrowing of tunnel. I hadn't noticed it before but now it seemed like a path. I felt the water was getting thicker, it was almost resting against my legs. The fibers in my clothes were tingling. I was almost certain I would trip over my own feet. I shuffled forward. I can tell you that you should not slosh through pools of water. Its side effects aren't profitable.

After a time of moving forward in my sloshing pool, I finally came across a cave's mouth. It seemed almost ordinary; a cave mouth, with long, sharp stalagmites jutting out of the walls. Unless you know what to look for, it will seem like an ordinary cave.

I do not know how long I spent going through the series of interconnected caves. But as I walked forward, I found the water thinning out until it was only a streak in my hair. I came across the same cyan glow from before. Then I noticed it was not a path. I looked up and saw the pool of water was gone. Behind me no cave mouth could be seen. And the path ahead seemed to disappear into a solid wall. Crouching down, I could see that there was nothing but air ahead of me. My hand came out and grabbed the air. I could feel it. In this strange space of nothingness, my hand could feel particles. It was as thick as the water had been. I reached out and touched it. It was a barrier. I kept my hand moving. It was paper thin. I was sure I'd heard it through my hand. I pushed my hand through and it hurt. The air pressure was not on my side. And when I pushed through I tumbled forward.

I landed on my face with arms outstretched looking behind me. My body felt like it had been immersed in liquid air. It was too hard to bend my limbs. I couldn't see anymore because of the bright white light. It was too bright. The intent was to blind someone who stood too close.

I felt myself being washed over by something. I could feel it try to scoop me up. I struggled and I managed to get to my feet. It worked but I felt like I would pass out at any moment. I staggered back and up to my knees. The mist was back. I was filled with anger.

"Stop! Stop!" I called out to the impossibly large mass of white. "What are you doing to me?"

I had to defend myself. I reached out for one of the largest stalagmites I could find. I grasped it with both hands and I began to pull. It was amazingly heavy. And it felt like it was made of metal, not rock. I struggled. I grunted and I finally pulled at it and broke it off. It hurt my arm, but I put it back where it was. And then I heard a voice behind me. It was a voice that spoke words I knew.

"[…]"

"Brenny?" I asked. "Brenny, is that you?"

"I'm in here too."

I heard a shuffle and I heard a thud. I turned and saw it was Brenny behind me. She was covered in mist. It was almost a blur.

"We're in here." she said.

"But how?"

"The Prometheus gave me an idea." she said as she pulled herself up.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Prometheus said to make your way to the center of this place. He said to find him there."

"How do we keep going forward?"

"Prometheus said he would give us wings. Wings that would keep us going forward."

"If you'll look closely through the mist you can see us." I said.

"As you can see, we're on the island. It doesn't seem to be very far, does it?"

"No, it doesn't."

"We need to make haste to the waterfalls." Brenny said. "It's where Prometheus wants us to go."

"But we need to find a way out of here first. There are demons all around. I think Prometheans should have warned us."

"Demons?" she asked.

"They have glowing green eyes, hands and claws. Their skin is red. And they have three heads."

"So they're angels, then?"

"No, not at all. They're demons, and the description fits."

We made our way to the pool. The surface was still crystal clear and the mist around our feet was still thick. And the more we walked the less it covered us. When we were at a reasonable distance from the waterfalls, I noticed they had turned green. The water looked like it had turned beautifully blue. The rocks around it were turning blue.

"We should lay down here and try and catch our breath." Brenny said.

"What do you think is waiting on the other side?" I asked.

"I don't know."

Brenny and I held a conversation for hours. We got to know each other. We talked about our lives when we were younger. And we talked about a life after death. The end of the world. About the ending. About how we would live, how we would conquer it. And we told each other what promises Prometheus had told us. The promise that we would live forever. How that would change humanity. How that would change the world.

Prometheus would come and we would be part of something eternal. It was as though Brenny and I already knew each other. And we knew that Prometheus would never hurt us. He was only trying to protect us. Keep us safe. He would give us power. He would give us new homes. He would allow us to live in a world of wonder.

After all we had listened to what Prometheus had said, when we were young, we became disciples. We told others what he had told us. And it didn't take long before others became converts. And suddenly we were a god. We decided that we would live in peace.
