She came over with a smile, pointed at my thermos, and said, “Bitcoin,” to which I replied with the same phrase and the same smile, “Yes, Bitcoin.” She told me, mixing English and Spanish, that she didn’t speak my language very well, and I responded in my not-so-perfect English. That’s when something magical happened: we understood each other.

The reason for our connection was simple yet powerful: Bitcoin. She told me she was in Medellín because she had been a speaker at the Bitcoin Medellín Conference last weekend. Despite the language barrier, communication flowed. In the end, we exchanged social media handles to stay in touch, and who knows, maybe we’ll collaborate in the future when we meet again in Medellín or another city around the world 🌎

Ayer, mientras disfrutaba un café y un momento de trabajo en una cafetería que suelo visitar, algo inesperado ocurrió. Mi termo, decorado con muchos stickers web3, entre ellos varios de Bitcoin, llamó la atención de una chica estadounidense que estaba sentada en una mesa cercana. Ella se acercó con una sonrisa, señaló mi termo y me dijo "Bitcoin", a lo que yo respondí con la misma frase y la misma sonrisa, "Yes, Bitcoin". Me dijo con una mezcla entre inglés y español que no hablaba bien mi idioma, yo le respondí en mi inglés no tan perfecto, y lo mágico sucedió: nos entendimos.

La razón de nuestra conexión fue simple pero poderosa: Bitcoin. Me contó que estaba en Medellín porque había sido speaker en la Bitcoin Medellín Conference, el fin de semana pasado.
