My order of drop spindle whorls was ready to pick up today.  I've been working with a local makerspace to manufacture these to my specifications.  Different sizes, weights, and shapes of whorls produce different results and these were made with beginning spinners in mind. 

They are heavier and have a wider diameter than many spindles, which means they will spin slower and for a longer period of time before coming to a stop.  This is perfect for a beginner who hasn't yet mastered drafting and spinning at the same time.  It, also, isn't going to break if it is dropped.  It is a solid puck of oak.  You could probably fling it against concrete and barely put a dent in it.

A bit of cutting board cream really brings out the oak grain and gives the wood a lovely shine.
