Have you asked anyone in your life "How are you?" recently? 
Not the one with the simplest reply, " I am OK" but an actual situation of their emotional state or life. 
I often do that with my mom during our coffee date. I ask her that question despite the fact that we meet everyday.

Over the years, I've grown closer to my mom maybe because she's getting pleasant to be with. She stopped nagging and did the thing that most moms do. We are friends and I find that enjoyable; I think that's how a mom-daughter relationship should be.

On our coffee date, she likes to try new things. Sometimes it is quite embarrassing that she critiques the food loudly. But I am used to it by now. Over coffee and food, she would tell me how she is feeling and her coworkers. All of My mom's coworkers are the same age as I am and older.

She always tells me how her life is quite colorful surrounded by younger people.

Honestly, it's quite a contrast to my life where I am surrounded by people who are older than me.

Does that make my life less colorful? nope. not at all. I think older people are more practical though some of them can be quite cynical. 
I learn a lot from their failures in life that I get to hear from time to time. 
Sometimes, some of them give me hope that even if I fuck up real bad, I could always start over as long as I am  not dead.

Just like this year where I am starting over from scratch.  To be fair, it hasn't been easy.  I compared myself a lot to others. But last night, I got this question, " You're only in your mid-20s. Who are you comparing yourself to?"

That puts me into perspective where at my age, I am not doing that bad.

I also recently heard a song from Jay kill ft hustle standard that the lyrics goes like this 
" if it's easy i don't deserve it
i want it to last
so i gotta earn it"

Maybe that's the key

The road won't be easy but it's going to be worth it.

I've worked with older people pretty much my entire career. I'm sadly getting to the point now though that I'm in that "older" genre! LOL though on my specific team I am the youngest! :D

I do enjoy the times to connect with someone and ask them truly "how are you doing?" instead of the usual salutations to get a conversation started.

😂 yeah at some point we'll be in that "older" generation. Even now, I am really a grandma according to crypto folks lol. We often ask how are you but never actually conversing. It's all just small talk and I often find that boring.

What a coincidence that you emphasize that you ask how are you emotionally; you know, I didn't realize something, I thought that people assumed that when I asked how are you? It was because I was referring to their state of mind.

Recently I had some differences with a person who told me to stop worrying because she had something physically wrong, and I told her that almost never, not to say never, I ask someone about their physical health, I ask them how they feel mentally and emotionally, at that moment I understood that people assume that because my profession is related to health, the only thing I do is to worry about that in people, and it is not so, I just want to say hello and know how they feel animically.

The worst thing is that this person is going through a bad emotional moment and I want to be able to help her, but she won't let me 😓 and every time I talk to her she tells me "I'm fine! When I know it's a lie. 

By the way she is casually older than me. I also work with a lot of people older than me and I know what you mean Mac.
