Sleeping On The Floor : My Experience
I revert to **Sleeping on the floor** despite hating it once. I was sleeping on the floor pretty much from late 2017 to 2019 when I ditched my mattress and before buying new one.  I saw many people doing that and some of them even looked like as if they are enlightened after sleeping on the floor. I hated sleeping on the floor because I got back ache and was too tired of working but here I am once again.

### So, Why do I go back sleeping on the floor? 

I realized that I have not been feeling well-rested from the last two weeks. Despite having a proper mattress, my quality of sleep was low. I constantly woke up feeling like I had a rough workout despite I didn't.  I was also constantly sleeping in the AM instead PM. It was rough weeks especially that it affected my quality of life, work, and relationship. 


### I woke up with body ache every morning and feeling sluggish.  


I only started sleeping on a decent mattress a few months ago - when I could afford buying one. It was quite an  okay experience. My quality of sleep has not changed and nothing seems to have improved. But there's  one thing that I noticed was different, since it's cozy, I was always wanting to nap. A little slumber here and there.  It was okay until I became lazier. 

#### Then, I try to remember once again, a practice I once did
Sleeping on the floor.  I remember the days when I was sleeping on the floor, I felt more productive and spend lesser time on my sleeping area. It's only logical because it takes time to set up the  futon and one can't jump in just like that.
#### However, from my experience...

I am not going to do it for too long. Since previously, it gave me back problems too and I missed the feeling of having a matress. But I do enjoy the perks of being more productive especially these days. Personally,  it's good to have variations because that's just the way things work in my life. I enjoy variations from time to time, trying different ways to live my life. 

##### If there's a health benefit to this, I am not sure. I feel Okay waking up and not feeling body ache. It was easier to stretch as well but that's it. The other benefit I get is feeling more productive and not tempted to have little nap or lounging on my bed with my phone.

Thai people prefer to sleep on a rock hard surface with just a thin sleeping mat (usually bamboo) and I must say, after 17 years here I have done it often enough that I prefer it.  One rests differently and yes, one DOES adjust and one's back stops aching!!  😆  There is no constriction of energy flow. 

My former Thai mother in law also used a block of plain wood to support her head, chines style. 🤣  I haven't quite gone that feral yet.

Wow ! your former mother in law was quite extreme ! I have a carpet with me and a futon. But I generally only use the futon because it's much easier to clean as well.  And it's only my 2nd day but I am definitely feeling much better than I used to.

When we were in Cambodia, we would sleep on the ground when it was too hot at night. The cold floor tiles were a nice change from a hot sweaty mattress made from the same stuff as dish sponges.

I live in a pleasant weather. 16 being the coldest, 32 being the hottest. But yeah, it's indeed a nice change but I hope you had a mattress or a futon :)

Geeze.  I sleep on the floor when my back is seriously bad.  I have a great foam mattress and I never 'hang out' in bed.  

If it feels good, do it.

I think there is a balance to both methods.
Sleeping on the floor for periods might be good to adjust your body.
But I would rather just sleep on a slim firm mattress than the floor. 
My currently mattress is to soft, its not good for my back either, I need something more sturdy, but not the floor :D

Oh yeah, I have futon and cozy blanket. It's gonna keep me warm especially during this cold summer. If you mattress is too soft, you need a new one before you get back problem ;)

Well soon I may also start sleeping on the floor. 
The backpain is troubling me. And with no exercise during lockdown I went into a bad shape. Well I did start exercising recently again. I think I should get back to floor sleep for relief from the back.

Although seen as opposite to luxury, sleeping on a flat surface has a few benefits. One will be, you will learn to appreciate what you have in life.

It will take time before the mind will adjust to the less-cushioned resting time, but over a few months people who practice this will have better ubderstanding about gratefulness. There are things at are normal in our daily life that we tend to forget to be grateful about it—remove it and you will see its importance.

Also, don't sleep directly on the floor without a barrier to the floor and your back, put something to protect you from the cold flooring.

Obviously, I have a futon with me and cozy blanket. A lot of people from where I live sleep on the floor too though I never really ask them why maybe when I travel again, I should ask them.

That's wonderful to know, I sleep on the floor too and don't use pillows. I've read it somewhere that (some large/hard) pillows can hunch the back and ditching it can gain few cm in height, was wishing to grow a bit taller.

I'm still far from being minimalistic, but was slowly practicing it for about a year already. It's good to hear more people are practicing it too.
