Acts 20:19 (KJV)
*Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:*
Paul did not mention that he served the Lord with banquets or programs or festivities or joking or parties or laughing. He served the Lord:
**With all humility of mind
With many tears and
With temptations**
Paul was targeted specifically by the Jews, but he had experienced plenty of troubles from others too.
Paul instructed the Philippians to rejoice in the Lord. We ought to take that to heart. But rejoicing in the Lord is not the same as light-heartedness and flippancy.
**We serve the Lord in humility **
Not with arrogance and pride.
**We serve the Lord with tears**
Not with shallowness and jocularity.
**We serve the Lord with temptations**
Not with comfort and ease.
