<p><strong>All of us -- each one of us.., relates to alcohol differently.</strong> We can equate it to some of the best times of our lives. And the funeral of a friend… It plays a bigger role, than I think, most of us realize -- enormous, if you think about it. The death, pain and sorrow . Anger and violence. The joy, elation and euphoria. Rapture and bliss. <em>We've played in it's presence and it's blessed us, with it's vibe!</em></p>

<p><center><em>At it's best -- a celebration… A father dancing with a bride. But at worst it's a killer, that will eat you alive. The joy it encourages.., the sadness it supplies. How could it be possible, that they all coincide. When I think of the things we blame alcohol for… The Yelling, the screaming -- the broken child, inside. Do we do a disservice to the very bottle we spy.&nbsp;</em><center></p>

<p><center><em>But then there's the flip, the party inside… The dancing and singing, good times we enjoy. The family occasions, reunions with friends.., as we toast to good times. The things that I've seen, with my very own eyes… The death and destruction, the life and the joy. I shutter and dance, as they stand side by side. &nbsp;It's a slippery slope when we learn to derive… Cause none of it's logical, yet they all coincide!</em></center></p>

<p><center><em>From a warm blowing breeze to a cold winters night.., we've enjoyed this potent beverage, as part of our lives. Even knowing the dangers, the very devil inside… Still we sip and cajole, while we hurt deep inside -- this wonderful potion, that lies with it's eyes. It's playful and sexy, as it temps you with it's pride… With a tilt of the glass, the thrill of the ride. We savor the sweetness of it's history… But relent in the bitterness of it's past. We laugh and we sing, while we cry and shout… When you look in the mirror and see your own soul… Means you've just had too much, now it's time to go. Is it any wonder they all coincide.</em></center></p>

<p>It's been my great pleasure, to stand behind the bar.., and be a part of such exuberant celebrations with virtual strangers. It's also been my honor to listen to their despair. From ever smiling faces, to the tears on my bar. I've tried my very best to be there for them all… Though it hurts and it stings -- it gives and rewards. It just blows my mind -- that, all this can coincide. <em>CHEERS!</em></p>

I feel so lucky to be able to just have a glass of wine or two and stop at that. There was a time in my life, just a few years ago, where I think I was drinking a little too much. I was in a very stressful job that required insane hours and I was starting to have an extra drink or two to dull the anguish of knowing the job was taking all I had (time, energy and hope) and nothing was left over for my writing.  Thankfully those days are behind me now.  My 45 year old liver will punish me with a debilitating hangover if I don't behave now.  : )

"If you can't be happy at least you can be drunk." Yes this says it all, @macksby. I used to be so terrified I would inherit my father's alcoholism. Luckily for me, I was able to know when to quit and it has not been a problem. But  when 5:00 in the afternoon comes around, I'm wanting my glass of wine. Another interesting comparison, like the post on water - a double edged sword depending on who's holding the glass.
