Pillars Of Historical And Modern Heroes

My laptop's operating system crashed with no warning. I have no installer so I had to bring it to the computer shop. From the province to Baguio City, I dropped off along the street right below the city hall and crossed to the sloping Rizal Park, in honor of our national hero. Let's have a walk in the park...

From the street, the immediate view of the park is an abstract monument which I never bothered to look at in detail until this day.

Getting closer to the monument, I saw abstracts of what seemed to be workers from different walks of life, all wearing face masks. Their abstract figures were colorless but their masks were highlighted in gold. "This must be in honor of the frontliners during the pandemic," I thought.

Below the monument is a script that somehow explains the structure. Indeed, it was for the frontliners! How did I not notice such monument during my countless passing by this park? When was this erected? I searched the internet and found its [story](https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1130811).

At the back of the monument are more worker images. I was aiming at it when my eyes caught the city hall in the background. Down the monument are few people enjoying the shades of the trees. Yes, there is not much to do in this park other than to feel its serenity.

In front of those under the tree is an almost dried man-made pond with rock mountain. The water level was very low at maybe just about 15cm high. They must have stopped the water supply.

The park is divided into two by Otek Street. I crossed the street to greet the back of Rizal monument with a short script of the hero's biography.

In front of the monument is Rizal's figure which seemed swallowed by the very tall column. I wonder which material the figure was sculpted from. And why is it not the standing Rizal? Or at least his bust figure?

And this photo? It is King Crab Lace coleus variety which I lost from my collections. These were on one of the flower beds in the park. Silly me thought of picking a stem to start all over but thought otherwise. I won't get caught stealing coleus stem. 😄

At the foot of the park is Shanum Street that separate it from Burnham Park right across.

The park is located in between the city hall and the popular Burnham Park. I do not know the Rizal Park area but it is certainly much smaller than its neighbor Burnham Park. Jose Rizal is our national hero so I wonder why his park in this part of the country is way smaller than the one carrying a foreigner's name. Maybe there are criteria for historical versus recreational parks...

I guess they are looking more on the profitable side of things than commemorating the history. The park is nice, tho. I'm also often tempted to pick flowers in a public area but it is prohibited, sadd.

Maybe so regarding profit over history.

Don't be sad about prohibited picking flowers in public places. That is just right. Try to imagine how a park would look like if everyone takes their pick of the plants in there. 😊
