We die so what the heck

Not so long ago, I saw a really interesting article. A man had written to a financial advice show and stated, "Why should I waste my time investing? Most people are not going to live long enough to use the money anyway"

This is the link to the article I read.

Though it sounds offensive, I can understand his point. Life may seem short and unjust. Some people go to work every day until retirement but still, don't get a chance to enjoy retirement as they have dreamt. So, we can easily get convinced to ask whether saving and investing are still worth it or not.

This kind of worldview though may become a trap. If we think that there is no need to plan for the future, we can do nothing and then we remain in the same place. And not because we haven't had the opportunity to progress, but rather due to our disbelief in the first place. This is what the show’s presenter was saying in various ways. He was not angry because the question was incorrect, but he was disappointed that the man had lost faith in himself, which caused him to even ask the question.

Actually, it is not a question of money at all. It becomes about what we get when we try. When we develop such habits as saving, planning for the future and acting meaningful, we are giving our future selves some opportunities. In case we fail to make a fortune, at least we will have a safe place to reside and options for lifestyles.

Life span cannot be guaranteed by anyone. But we can decide that our time is valuable and act accordingly.
