Yes the hammer was hit on the head... The demand for bitcoin went haphazard with the emergence of other coins which rather acted as a close substitute to bitcoin. And so what we experience now as instability in the crypto market in my opinion is the effect of variety of digital currencies in the market... It will only take time to assume an optimum stability!

Completely agreed. The market is balancing out with all the new options available, on top of the natural high and low of a "wild west" market. People are complaining about not making their money back in days or weeks as opposed to months or years. Heck, almost any new mining hardware you buy has an ROI of less than a year. That's better than most business plans.
