Welcome! I've been reading on steemit for about a month now and I get what you mean. I haven't even done my 'introduceyourself' post because it seems like a commitment. However, I am a content producer and writing is something that I love to do. And as someone who (kinda) writes for a living, my advice to you is really, just be yourself. Write from the bottom of your heart. Express your truth to the world. You might never know.. some could be reading your words and finding inspiration from you.

Awesome post Maggie! 

I myself have not gotten around to make my first post on SteemIt, thinking I needed to understand ALL the ins and outs of the whitepaper, before even engaging. 

But your post made me realize, that no matter what the "system" is, honesty and "just doing it" is what will always resonate the strongest with people in a good community, which I agree that SteemIt seems to be.

Just look - out of 28 views, you have 25 votes! 
That's an insane view to vote ratio, no matter how "small"... 

I'm sure you will do great on this platform, without even realizing how you suddently got there. 

So my first contribution to SteemIt will be and upvote for you, and a reminder to myself to not overthink things, but sometimes just taking the leap and learning by doing.

First of all I would like to welcome you to Steemit! 
I assure you there are a lot of users on here who are not any kind of celebrity or company. They're just regular people like you and me and that's just positive! 

There is this third-party chatroom where you can talk to users alike (keep in mind never to share any of your private keys; especially the master key, to anyone nor any site suspicious). 
You can find the chatroom by the domain "Steem.chat" (that's the whole link). 

I also recommend you to read through different tutorials and guides people have made about how Steemit works. 
For example, @sykochica has made a lot of simple yet relevant guides and gathered them together into a google docs link in her page's header.

As of what to post on Steemit - well, you can post anything at all, really! Your thoughts on some topic, your life, your art of any sort... Just remember not to share anything you'll later regret sharing (personal information), as what's published on the blockchain, never gets removed.
