<div class="text-justify"><p>Greetings dear friends of the Qsounds community! It's an honor for me to join and make my first post here with a very interesting initiative called, "It can't be true... I'm leaving Guitar for Bongo drum" to which I was invited by my dear friend @rosana6.</p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>Since I can remember I have always been influenced by music. My father's side of the family all sing and my father plays the guitar, something he learned from his uncles, so the musical passion has been transmitted from generation to generation.</p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>Today I have had the opportunity to learn thanks to my father and some friends, this wonderful instrument such as the guitar, but I have also had the opportunity to play the bass and the cuatro and I consider that I am in a constant learning process.</p></div> 

<div class="text-justify"><p>Somehow I have always felt attracted to percussion instruments, drums, congas, bongo and it is something that I would certainly like to learn, I think they have their complexity, but when you master them you get skill and independence. That said, let's start with the initiative.</p></div>

> <div class="text-justify"><p>Desde que tengo memoria siempre fui influenciada por la música. Por parte de mi familia paterna todos cantan y mi papá taca la guitarra, cosa que aprendió de sus tíos, por lo cual la pasión musical se viene transmitiendo de generación en generación.</p></div>

> <div class="text-justify"><p>Hoy día he tenido la posibilidad de aprender gracias a mi padre y a unos amigos, este maravilloso instrumento como lo es la guitarra, pero también he tenido oportunidad de tocar el bajo y el cuatro y considero que estoy en un constante aprendizaje de los mismos.</p></div> 

> <div class="text-justify"><p>De alguna manera siempre me he sentido atraída por los instrumentos de percusión, la batería, las congas, el bongó y es algo que sin duda me gustaría aprender, considero que tienen su complejidad, pero que al dominarlos consigues destreza e independencia. Dicho esto, comencemos con la iniciativa.</p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>As I said at the beginning of this post, I am attracted to percussion instruments, which are used to create rhythm patterns. In the particular case of my country, this type of instruments are fundamental for tropical rhythms, such as salsa and merengue among others, and these rhythms have always influenced a lot in my musical culture. I had the opportunity to access the bongo thanks to the musical group of the church I attend, who use it to accompany a variety of pieces, both tropical and ballads, the truth is a very versatile instrument.</p></div> 

> <i><b>2. Escribe una anécdota sobre cómo has conseguido llegar a ese instrumento y/o por qué has elegido ese.</b></i>

> <div class="text-justify"><p>Como dije al comienzo d este post, me siento atraída por instrumentos de percusión, que son usados para crear patrones de ritmo. En el caso particular de mi país, este tipo de instrumentos son fundamentales para los ritmos tropicales, como la salsa y el merengue entre otros y estos ritmos, desde siempre han influido mucho en mi cultura musical. Tuve la oportunidad de acceder al bongó gracias al grupo musical de la iglesia a la que asisto, que lo utilizan para acompañar diversidad de piezas, tanto tropicales como baladas, la verdad es un instrumento muy versátil.</p></div>

<i><b>3. Write some curious or interesting fact about that instrument, anything that you think can make us understand better and learn in an interesting way about it. Or you can explain how the instrument works, how it gives the sound, parts of it, that's up to you.</b></i>

<div class="text-justify"><p>The bongo is an instrument that was born in Cuba and developed with the son montuno in the eastern part of the island, it reached its definitive form when it arrived in Havana in 1905. They always come in pairs, they are two small drums made of wood slightly shaped like a trunk, the upper part is covered by a membrane or drumhead and they are tightened with a metal ring through metal keys, one smaller than the other and they have a very sharp and bright sound. It is composed of: rim of the hoop, crown, shell, middle bridge, base hoop, cancane or hooks.</p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>There are different types of bongos, made of wood, ceramic, metal and fiberglass, each one provides a different sound depending on what is sought in the song. The player plays the instrument with his hands, placing the bongo between his knees in a seated position, placing the smaller diameter drum (sharp) on his left side.</p></div>

> <i><b>3. Escribe algún dato curioso o interesante sobre ese instrumento, cualquier cosa que creas que puede hacernos entender mejor y aprender de forma interesante sobre él. O puedes explicar cómo funciona el instrumento, cómo da el sonido, partes del mismo, eso lo decides tú.</b></i>

> <div class="text-justify"><p>El bongó es un instrumento que nació en Cuba y se desarrolló con el son montuno en la zona oriental de la isla, alcanzó su forma definitiva cuando llegó a La Habana en 1905. Siempre vienen en pareja, se trata de dos tambores pequeños hechos de madera ligeramente en forma de tronco, la parte superior está cubierto por una membrana o parche y son tensados con un anillo de metal a través de llaves metálicas, uno más pequeño que otro y que poseen un sonido muy agudo y brillante. Está compuesto por: borde del aro, corona, cascara, puente del medio, aro de base, cáncanos o ganchos.</p></div>

> <div class="text-justify"><p>Existen diferentes tipos de bongós, de madera, de cerámica, de metal y de fibra de vidrio, cada uno aporta un sonido diferente dependiendo lo que se busque en la canción. Quien ejecuta el instrumento, lo hace con sus manos y para ello, coloca el bongó entre sus rodillas sentado, colocando el tambor de diámetro más pequeño (agudo) a su lado izquierdo.</p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>A fact that I found interesting to share with all of you about this instrument is that although it is played with the hands, over the years, in contemporary music, it is common to use felt or wooden drumsticks when playing it.</p></div> 

<div class="text-justify"><p>Among some famous bongos players, we can find: Agustin Gutierrez (Cuba), Rogelio Iglesias (Cuba), Candido Requena (Cuba), Jack Costanzo (USA), Candido Camero (Cuba), Mongo Santamaria (Cuba), Armando Peraza (Cuba) and from my country, we have great talents such as: Carlos Emilio Landaeta, José Natalio Navarro Barreto, Jesús Quintero and Gerardo Rosales.</p></div>

> <div class="text-justify"><p>Un dato que me pareció interesante para compartir con todos ustedes sobre este instrumento es que a pesar de se ejecuta con las manos, con el pasar de los años, en la música contemporánea, es frecuente utilizar baquetas de fieltro o de madera a la hora de percutirlo.</p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>First of all, I share with you a video of the Mexican Roberto Serrano, a very talented percussionist who was also a drum and percussion teacher at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, he is currently the percussionist of the band of Jesus Adrian Romero, a well-known singer, composer and pastor.</p></div> 

<div class="text-justify"><p>In this particular video, he teaches us some fills to accompany various musical pieces.</p></div>
