Setting up the K40 laser

Calgary has decided it is no longer winter. In fact despite there still being the odd patch of snow around, it was 25c today.

Why does that matter? Well it means I could spend time in the garage setting up my laser. The other Chinese machine.

Unlike my Eleksmaker, the K40 is a 40w Co2 machine, meaning it can cut as well as engrave.

Rather than a solid state laser, it uses a fragile and expensive laser tube, and a series of mirrors.

The huge PITA is getting them all to line up so most of the energy is directed at what you want to cut or engrave.

Once you have them lined up you can then try different settings to see what results you can get with different materials.

Mine has a vent fan and water cooling, but I don’t yet have anywhere to vent *to*. I’m also going to add air assist to keep the mirrors and lens clear of particulate.
