Cuando somos oriundos de un país, quizás nos cuesta más identificar aquellas cosas que nos caracterizan como nación.Sin embargo, estar del otro lado tampoco es tan fácil definir al otro, sin herir susceptibilidades aunque se hagan sin intención alguna. 

Siendo extranjera viviendo en Argentina, tengo como punto de comparación todo el bagaje de lo vivido en mis primeras 4 décadas de vida fuera de acá, por lo que esta selección la hice llevada más por lo que me resultaba novedoso en contraste con mi experiencia previa.

Arquitectura

Una de las grandes cosas que me gusta de Buenos Aires, es que conservan las construcciones antiguas, y que pueden convivir con la mordernidad sin que caigan en competencia en cuanto a majestuosidad y belleza.

Por lo general, he visto como en nombre de la evolución, el crecimiento o la mejora en los materiales utilizados, en muchos casos prefieren demoler y volver a construir, perdiéndose todo un aspecto histórico y cultural que a mi parecer es importante preservar.

Acá para mi es un deleite poder parar el paso (así esté apurada) y admirar la belleza de cada obra arquitectónica, tan llena de detalles que remontan a otros tiempos, en los que se tomaban en cuenta no solo lo práctico, sino también lo ornamental.

Transporte

Acá tenemos dos vertientes de un mismo punto. Por un lado, el uso común de bicicletas ha hecho que inclusive existan las estaciones de bicis gratuitas para ir de un punto a otro. En mi país, quien andaba en bicicleta, era considerado (en mis tiempos de infancia y adolescencia) una persona de escasos recursos, en cambio acá la mentalidad es otra: va desde la practicidad hasta el cuidado del medio ambiente, y eso es genial!

Inclusive, y acá empalmo con la segunda vertiente: el poder llevarlas en el tren para moverse luego en dos ruedas por la ciudad, es un plus que no se ve en mi país. Y cuando hablo del tren, es la otra cara de esta moneda, pues la red ferroviaria, con todo lo que pudiera tener de negativo, es una excelente manera de movilizarse de un punto a otro. Ojalá Venezuela pudiera contar con algo similar, sobre todo ahora que los problemas con el combustible cada vez son peores.

Mascotas

Acá quien no tiene una mascota, parece ser un ser incompleto. Esto fue algo que me llamó muchisimo la atención, pues inclusive al momento de los alquileres, pareciera que se le da prioridad a los animales que a los niños!

Esta estatua de un perrito, ubicada en una plaza de Banfield, certifica lo importante que es la presencia de esos acompañantes peludos en la sociedad argentina.

Dulces

Para los argentinos enterarse que en Venezuela se desayuna con comida salada, es casi tan traumático como para los venezolanos ver como la primera comida del día es dulce! Acá la presencia de facturas, pasta frola y demás exquisiteses cubiertas de azúcar y cremas, es una tentación en la que cualquiera cae, tan solo por el hecho que querer probarlas todas. Pero ojo, puedes llegar a tener graves consecuencias de hacerlo a diario.

Tatuajes

Aunque si los hay (y muchos), encontrar a un argentino que no tenga un tatuaje, es una tarea de espionaje. Nunca había visto yo tanta gente con tinta en la piel, sea con diseños grandes o pequeños, se puede ver que más que una simple moda, es toda una cultura que tiene que ver con plasmar ideas y diseños en diferentes partes del cuerpo. Inclusive yo me adherí a esta modalidad!

Historia

Más allá de los cuentos de cuando llegaron los emigrantes, y todo el tiempo previo a la colonización, los argentinos se empeñan (y les aplaudo eso) en mantener viva la memoria de sus luchas recientes: la consigna de Las Malvinas son Argentinas la vemos en todos lados, pero no solo eso, las luchas por la igualdad social, por no olvidar las atrocidades de la dictadura, por los derechos de todos, es algo que siempre es recalcado, y que va más allá de la política, pues es hacer consciente a las nuevas generaciones, que dar un paso atrás nunca debe ser negociable.

Folclore

Me pueden creer que en 5 años, no he logrado conocer a alguien que sepa bailar tango? Evidentemente los hay, pero bailarines de academias, no la gente común.

En Venezuela, todavía existen (y me incluyo) personas que al escuchar un joropo o un golpe de tambores, se activa aunque sea con los pasos básicos. Inclusive los actos escolares siempre tienen un número con joropo.

Claro, el tango es un baile que tiene sus técnicas, y quizás sean un poco más complicada que los que ya nombré, pero sería lindo recuperar esto entre los niños para que no pase a ser un recuerdo y ya...

Gardel dijo que 20 años no es nada, pero pareciera que a partir del 21, la memoria empieza a fallar.

Transport

Here we have two sides of the same point. On one hand, the common use of bicycles has led to the existence of free bike stations to go from one point to another. In my country, someone who rode a bicycle was considered (in my childhood and adolescence) a person of limited resources, whereas here the mentality is different: it ranges from practicality to environmental care, and that is great! 

Additionally, and here I segue to the second side: being able to bring them on the train to then move around the city on two wheels is a plus that is not seen in my country. And when I talk about the train, it is the other side of this coin, because the railway network, with all its potential negatives, is an excellent way to move from one point to another. I wish Venezuela could have something similar, especially now that the problems with fuel are getting worse.

Pets

Here, whoever does not have a pet seems to be an incomplete being. This was something that caught my attention a lot, because even at the time of renting, it seems that priority is given to animals over children! 

This statue of a dog, located in a square in Banfield, certifies how important the presence of these furry companions is in Argentine society.

Sweets

For Argentines to find out that in Venezuela breakfast includes savory food, is almost as traumatic as for Venezuelans to see how the first meal of the day is sweet! Here, the presence of pastries, pasta frola, and other delicacies covered in sugar and creams, is a temptation that anyone falls for, just because they want to try them all. But beware, you can have serious consequences if you do it daily.

Tattoos

Although there are indeed many, finding an Argentine without a tattoo is a spy task. I had never seen so many people with ink on their skin, whether with large or small designs, it can be seen that more than just a fad, it is a whole culture that has to do with capturing ideas and designs on different parts of the body. Even I have embraced this trend!

History

Beyond the stories of when immigrants arrived, and all the time before colonization, Argentines are committed (and I applaud them for that) to keep the memory of their recent struggles alive: the slogan of The Falkland Islands are Argentine seen everywhere, but not only that, the struggles for social equality, not forgetting the atrocities of the dictatorship, for the rights of all, is something that is always emphasized, and that goes beyond politics, as it is making the new generations aware that taking a step back should never be negotiable.

Folklore

Can you believe that in 5 years, I have not managed to meet anyone who knows how to dance the tango? Obviously there are some, but they are dancers from academies, not common people.

In Venezuela, there are still (and I include myself) people who, when they hear a joropo or a drumbeat, are activated even if it's just with the basic steps. Even school events always have a number with joropo.

Of course, tango is a dance that has its techniques, and maybe they are a little more complicated than the ones I already mentioned, but it would be nice to recover this among children so that it doesn't just become a memory and that's it...

Gardel said that 20 years is nothing, but it seems that starting from the 21st, memory starts to fail.
