My movements this week have been somehow difficult for me because of the much work am facing from my hotel working place as a front office manager almost everything about the hotel falls under my control after the general manager.

I took a walk to one of the buildings around my hotel working place. The building is located at Federal Polytechnic Road, Umuerim back gate in Owerri West Imo State, Nigeria. The building is among the newly designed house near my hotel but is still under construction. The house is meant to be rented out to tenants.

One of the reasons why I shared this building with you is because of its beauty in roofing and designing the outer view of the building. Though one of the challenges of this building is that the Architects did not allow or provide much space for car parking and for other events which the person that will be renting the house will be supposed to be enjoying. Because of the low space provision, the renting cost is expected to reduce for the tenants.

Sometimes in Africa, my problem with our Architects and Designers is that they can economize space and not consider future usage. I strongly believe that one of the key functions of professional Architects is to make sure that a building is well set with enough land space.

One thing I acknowledge about the Architecture that handled this building is that the building looks small but portable with its wonderful designs from every angle of the building. This makes the building more beautiful and attractive to tenants within the area of Imo State.

I was happy to see that the Architects of this building made a provision for a thunder arrestor because this helps to control the thunder blow or strums. In Imo Nigeria, we are always faced with heavy thunderstorms because it is always raining. I could remember a building that was well structured and designed but the Architects failed to instruct the electrical engineer to provide a thunder arrestor for the building and in the end when the thundering blow, the whole electrical appliances in the house got damaged and the owner of the building instead of blaming the Electrical Engineer he blamed the Architects because he controls the entire building from the foundation to the roofing level.

Looking at the roof of this building, the Architects preferred stone-coated sheets not minding the cost of the sheets. This also makes this building more beautiful and more expensive than other buildings within the area. The stone-coated sheets seem to be preferred because of their portability and low maintenance. Its type of roofing sheets helps reduce the hotness of the sun by entering any house thereby preventing the heat from the house. In Nigeria, before anyone uses this type of roofing sheet for his/her house. It is expected that the owner of the house is rich because of its high cost to purchase and also in fixing it by furniture men.

The Front design of this building with pillars makes the building stronger and proves the good work of an Architects. I was also attracted by this building because of its design and I love the job.
