<br>I have only seen houses with chimneys in cartoons, movies and dramas, especially Christmas movies where Santa Claus goes into the chimney, and appear out of the fire place to place gifts for the children into their respective socks. 
<br>But sometimes, Santa Claus gets stuck in the chimney and there goes the gifts for the children. I wonder how a huge bag of gifts can pass through the chimney? Somehow, it is possible in the movies, and in cartoons. And Santa Claus usually appears clean after climbing down the chimney which I would assume be full of soot? What if there is fire burning? How does that work?
<br>I have always liked seeing houses with chimneys, not so much the chimney but more the fireplace. A fireplace pedestal with brickwalls and cosy decorations around it. I would imagine the warmth of sitting by the fire, listening to the sounds of fire wood crackling in a cool winter's day while drinking a hot cup of chocolate drink.
<br>I heard that having a chimney is not easy to maintain. There is a need to sweep the chimney, and as creepy as it sounds, spiders, bats and whatnots can also live in a chimney.
<br>There was a movie I vaguely remember watching once, and I can't remember the title, there were chimney sweepers. It sounded and looked like a dangerous occupation, to climb down the chimney with ropes, maybe one that fits the Dirty Jobs television series.
<br>If I put aside the thought of soot and the unknowns that may be living in a chimney, I'd still think having a chimney is cool. But I am quite sure, every year I will be looking at the fireplace and chimney, wondering how to clean it. I would imagine soot falling and dropping from the walls of the chimney, down into the fireplace, causing a gush of soot into the house. What a headache that would be.
