Having only 2 lives from the beginning, added more difficulty, our "normal" attacks with double cannon shots were a bit desperate, because sometimes those shots were so slow that we did not achieve precision hits, fortunately we had a very valuable resource, and they were the burst shots, which consisted of a single cannon that came out of the central part of the ship and its sequence of bullets was at least twice as fast as the basic form of shots.

The basic ammunition had the advantage of being infinite, but the burst ammunition was limited to a number, which we could see at the bottom right of our screen, and that was adding one by one for each ship we destroyed, so it was important to save resources for times when the action and number of enemies was really high.

As we progressed, the background scenery was varying as well as the enemy ships, having very independent movement patterns for each type of ship, which complicated its difficulty much more, remembering that our control of the ship was a little rough, something that was predetermined and to which we had to get used to.

As there was not a slow transition in scenario changes, we had the obligation to be very attentive to the changes, some huge ships appeared and were much more difficult to defeat, because one shot was not enough to destroy them. These other ships were some kind of modified birds that would fire shots at us.

I never got beyond about 6 stages, because the game was so complicated, that from one moment to another you could lose all the special ammunition and later the few lives we had, I could even include this game in the top 10 most complicated games of the NES. Every game that represented a high challenge became for my taste a very challenging game, in which to score points and improve our flying technique to advance, was a way to show ourselves and our friends, our skill improvements with the game. A great piece of work that was worth playing.

La gama de juegos de naves para las videoconsolas retro fue bastante extensa, con títulos que rompieron esquemas y dejaron un legado que hoy en día continúa siendo eco de los gamers, juegos como Galaga, Star Force y otros títulos demostraron que con una programación técnicamente básica se podían realizar trabajos de muy buen nivel, siendo capaces de transmitir sensaciones de satisfacción y por consecuente "adicción" a la hora de jugar.

Los elementos predominantes que hacían resaltar a un juego del género era el nivel de acción y variedad, sumando a ello una ambientación musical que diera sincronía con la estética del juego, y que nos permitiese a los gamers disfrutar a plenitud de las obras de antaño.

Exerion era una promesa básica que gráficamente dejaba un gran impacto, pues la programación del juego permitía un efecto visual de avance de nuestra nave en forma 3D, agregando a ello otro efecto, pero esta vez gravitatorio, que en ocasiones daba sensaciones de perdidas de control o de una nave planeando, generando un pequeño delay que hacía que este efecto fuese realmente contundente, y partiendo de allí como uno de los aspectos que hacían que el juego se convirtiese en casi una hazaña para ser superado.

Contar con únicamente 2 vidas desde el inicio, le sumaba mayor dificultad, nuestros ataques "normales" con disparos de doble salida de cañón que en cierto modo eran un poco desesperantes, pues en ocasiones esos disparos eran tan lentos que no lográbamos impactos de precisión, afortunadamente contábamos con un recurso muy valioso, y eran los disparos de ráfaga, que constaban de un solo cañón que salía de la parte central de la nave y su secuencia de balas era al menos el doble de rápida que la forma básica de disparos.

Las municiones básicas tenían la ventaja de ser infinitas, pero las municiones de ráfaga se limitaban a un número, que podíamos ver en la parte inferior derecha de nuestra pantalla, y que iba sumando de uno en uno por cada nave que destruíamos, por lo que era importante ahorrar recursos para momentos en los que la acción y cantidad de enemigos era realmente elevada.

A medida que avanzábamos, el escenario de fondo iba variando al igual que las naves enemigas, teniendo patrones de movimiento muy independientes por cada tipo de nave, lo que complicaba mucho más su dificultad, recordando que nuestro control de la nave era un poco tosco, algo que era predeterminado y a lo que nos debíamos acostumbrar.

Al no haber una transición pausada en cambios de escenarios, teníamos la obligación de estar muy atentos a los cambios, algunas naves enormes aparecían y eran mucho más difíciles de derrotar, pues un disparo no era suficiente para destruirlas. Estas otras naves eran una especie de aves modificadas que desplegaban disparos hacía nosotros.

Nunca llegué más allá de unas 6 fases, pues el juego era tan complicado, que de un momento a otro podías perder todas las municiones especiales y posteriormente las pocas vidas que tuviésemos, podría incluso incluir a este juego en el top 10 de juegos más complicados de la NES. Todo juego que representaba un desafío elevado se convertía para mi gusto en un juego muy retador, en el que sumar puntos y mejorar nuestra técnica de vuelo para ir avanzando, era una forma de demostrarnos a nosotros mismos y a nuestros amigos, nuestras mejoras de habilidad con el juego. Una gran obra que valió la pena jugar.
