## Rotation period

The rotation period of a celestial object is the time that this object takes to fulfill one revolution around its axis of rotation. Planet Earth takes 23<sup>h</sup>56<sup>m</sup>4<sup>s</sup>.  In the Solar system, most planets (and the Sun) rotate counterclockwise, except Venus and Uranus. Venus has the longest rotation period, it is equal to 243 Earth days. The shortest rotation period is the one of Jupiter, which is close to 10<sup>h</sup>.
