Nuclear energy saw its peak in 1995 and 1996 when 17.6% of the world's electricity generation came from nuclear sources. in the year 2001 about 9% of all energy generation originated in nuclear reactors. Now, those numbers are 10% and 4.3% respectively.

Safety concerns and a push for the use of renewable energy sources are the main causes for the decline. This has led to reduced investment and construction of new reactors.

However, the current energy crisis is creating a new push for nuclear energy. Some countries such as Poland, United Arab Emirates and Belarus have announced building of reactors. Europe is seeing a slowing down in the decommissioning of nuclear plants.

I believe that nuclear energy should be used extensively. Safety is much better now than in previous decades and renewable energy sources such as wind and solar as not as reliable.
