Tener a un hijo enfermo es una de las peores situaciones a las que los padres nos podemos enfrentar, y estoy por aquí justo para contarles eso, que tengo a Isa enferma. Me tome un momento mientras espero que le haga efecto un medicamento que acabo de darle, para venir a escribir un poco en un intento de desahogarme u organizar mis ideas.

Desde el día jueves en la tarde empezó con fiebre alta, y pasó la noche mal, con escalofríos y mucho dolor en el cuerpo, pensé que pasaría en un día o dos como suele ocurrir cuando se trata de una gripe leve pero han pasado varios días y las cosas empeoran.

El dia sabado estuvo tranquila, y el domingo en la mañana también, no tuvo fiebre hasta la tarde y luego en la madrugada del lunes, allí empezó a vomitar y no estaba aguantando los medicamentos para la fiebre, en la mañana nos fuimos a una unidad de salud donde al medirle la temperatura  38,9°C enseguida nos pasaron para el área de pediatría.

Al hablar con la pediatra ella me regaño, por asi decirlo, por esperar tantos dias para llevarla al puesto a salud, pero yo le respondí que siempre que la llevo alli nos regresan para la casa y solo le mandan algo para la fiebre, así que los primero días eso fue lo que hice, darle dipirona en pastilla pues aquí es lo que se toma para la fiebre, ella cambio de actitud y me dijo que “bueno, un niño con dos días de fiebre se trata así, pero cuando la fiebre persiste si hay que llevarlo al médico” allí me dio la razón y fue que empezó a escribir las órdenes médicas para hacerle exámenes de sangre y para que le colocaron suero intravenoso, y vi que le mandó a poner un medicamento para la fiebre y otro para los vómitos. 

Yo desde dias antes tenia la sospecha de que puede ser dengue, así que le dije eso a la doctora y ella me dijo que le hizo la orden para que le hicieran una prueba para dengue, chikungunya o zica, también le mandó hacer una hematologia completa y otros exámenes más de ese tipo. 

Lo primero que hicimos fue ir a colocarle el suero, pues necesitaba hidratarse y que se le bajara la fiebre para luego poder ir al laboratorio a hacerle los exámenes, le costó un poco que le tomaran la vía para colocarle el suero supongo que por la fiebre y la deshidratación, pero al final la enfermera lo logró y en eso Isa quiso vomitar de nuevo, después se fue calmando y se quedó quieta mientras iba pasando el suero, yo me quede parada a su lado, para sostenerla porque estaba muy débil y se sentía en verdad mal. además no había un lugar cerca para sentarme. 

Al pasar todo el suero le tomaron la temperatura nuevamente y seguía con la fiebre en 38, así que debíamos esperar media hora más a que le hiciera efecto la inyección que le habían puesto antes. al cabo de un buen rato se le midió la temperatura y ya había bajado a 37 así que nos fuimos al laboratorio que queda en el piso de abajo, allí nos preguntaron varias casas sobre la posibilidad de ser dengue, chikungunya o zica, supongo que como son enfermedades que se propagan por mosquitos deben tener datos sobre el zona y como es el ambiente donde uno vive para notificar y atender por que pueden de haber más casos en la zona, y un punto adicional es que al ver que uno es extrangero no entienden nada de lo que uno dice, piensan que uno es turista, no entendía mi documento de identidad que es brasilero pero bueno, con paciencia le expliqué todo al señor que me estaba atendiendo. 

Después me avisó que los resultados los estarían dando a partir de las 19hrs, es decir a las 7pm cosa que me preocupó pues era apenas las 12 del mediodía, tendriamos que esperar todo ese tiempo allí dentro del puesto de salud, pero igual le tomaron las muestras de sangre y subimos a la sala de observación a esperar todo ese tiempo. 

Allí a Isa le dio hambre, así que tuve que salir a comprarle algo, conseguí un yogurt y una galleta salada que a ella le gusta y eso fue lo que comió, más tarde me dijo que le dolía la cabeza, fui a avisar para que le dieran alguna medicina y le dieron unas gotas creo que era paracetamol, luego durmió un poco, todo esto sentada en una silla medio incomoda y yo de pie a su lado, de verdad que ya no aguantaba mi cuerpo, estaba demasiado cansada. 

A las 18hrs subió una señora que le había hecho exámenes a su hijo en la misma hora que yo estaba con Isa allí  en el laboratorio y me dijo que ya estaban dando los resultados, así que baje rápido y en efecto si los tenían allí. Subí de nuevo a donde la pediatra y me dijo que dio positivo para dengue tal y como sospechábamos. Le receto medicina para la fiebre (dipirona en pastillas), suero oral, y le dejó una orden para hacerle otra hematología completa el miércoles para chequear las plaquetas nuevamente por las tenia bajas, no podían hacer más nada allí pues el dengue se trata solo controlando la fiebre y son varios días seguidos con los mismos síntomas hasta que pasa, solo hay que hidratarla bien y que guarde reposo. Así que nos fuimos a casa.

La noche y madrugada del martes tuvo fiebre fuerte de nuevo y sigue vomitando, incluso está peor pues no aguanta ni el agua que toma, y eso me preocupa mucho ya que no estoy logrando hidratarla bien, quería llevarla de nuevo al medico hoy pero luego pensé que mañana igual debo llevarla  a hacerle el examen de sangre, allí veremos como sigue y si hay algun medicamento que le pueden poner para que deje de vomitar y asi hidratarse y comer bien para que se recupere.


Me frustra que nada de lo que le preparo de comer lo aguanta, siempre le da náuseas, le compre agua de coco, gelatina, frutas y le hice una buena sopa de pollo con auyama que le licue para que se lo tomara en cremita y nada, no se si es normal los síntomas estomacales con el dengue, pero espero que ya se le vaya pasando por que son muchos días sin alimentarse bien, lo bueno es que ella es una niña sana y tiene buen peso así que no se ha descompensado y a aguantado la fiebre. 

Mientras escribo esto me siento terriblemente cansada, me duele la cabeza y ya no se cuantos dias tengo sin dormir bien, pero en realidad mi cansancio es lo de menos, ella debe estar sintiéndose peor que yo, se que hasta que ella se recupere voy a estar así en estado de alerta y pensé que quizás compartiendo esto con otros libero un poco la presión.

Since Thursday afternoon she started with a high fever, and spent the night sick, with chills and a lot of pain in her body, I thought it would pass in a day or two as it usually happens when it is a mild flu but it has been several days and things are getting worse.

On Saturday she was calm, and on Sunday morning too, she had no fever until the afternoon and then in the early hours of Monday morning, there she started to vomit and was not tolerating the fever medication, in the morning we went to a health unit where when we measured her temperature at 38.9°C we were immediately transferred to the paediatrician's department.

When I spoke to the paediatrician she scolded me, so to speak, for waiting so many days to take her to the health centre, but I told her that whenever I take her there they always send her back home and only send her something for the fever, so for the first few days that is what I did, I gave her dipyrone in pill form as that is what is taken here for the fever, She changed her attitude and told me that "well, a child with two days of fever is treated like that, but when the fever persists you have to take him to the doctor" and that's when she agreed with me and started writing the medical orders for blood tests and for intravenous fluids, and I saw that she sent him a medicine for the fever and another one for the vomiting. 

I had been suspecting for days that it might be dengue, so I told the doctor that and she told me that she ordered a test for dengue, chikungunya or zika, and also ordered a complete haematology and other tests of that type. 

The first thing we did was to give her the serum, as she needed to hydrate herself and get her fever down so that we could then go to the laboratory to do the tests, it was a bit difficult for them to take the IV to give her the serum, I suppose because of the fever and dehydration, but in the end the nurse managed it and Isa wanted to vomit again, then she calmed down and stayed still while the serum was given, I stood next to her, to support her because she was very weak and felt really bad. Besides, there was no place nearby to sit. 

After passing all the serum, they took his temperature again and he still had a fever of 38, so we had to wait another half hour for the injection they had given him earlier to take effect. After a while they measured his temperature and it had already dropped to 37 so we went to the laboratory downstairs, there they asked us about the possibility of being dengue, chikungunya or zika, I suppose that as they are diseases that are spread by mosquitoes they must have information about the area and the environment where you live to notify and attend because there may be more cases in the area, And an additional point is that when they see that you are a foreigner they don't understand anything you say, they think you are a tourist, I didn't understand my identity card which is Brazilian but well, with patience I explained everything to the man who was attending me. 

Then he told me that the results would be given to us at 7pm, which worried me because it was only 12 noon, we would have to wait all that time inside the health post, but they still took the blood samples and we went up to the observation room to wait all that time. 

There Isa got hungry, so I had to go out and buy her something, I got a yoghurt and a cracker that she likes and that's what she ate, later she told me that she had a headache, I went to ask for some medicine and they gave her some drops I think it was paracetamol, then she slept a bit, all this sitting in a chair a bit uncomfortable and me standing next to her, I really couldn't stand my body, I was too tired. 

At 6pm a lady who had done tests on her son at the same time I was with Isa in the lab came up and told me that they were already giving the results, so I went down quickly and they did indeed have them there. I went back up to the paediatrician and she told me that it was positive for dengue fever as we had suspected. She prescribed medicine for the fever (dipyrone tablets), oral serum, and left an order to do another complete haematology on Wednesday to check the platelets again because they were low, they could not do anything else there because dengue is treated only by controlling the fever and there are several days in a row with the same symptoms until it passes, you just have to hydrate her well and keep her resting. So we went home.

Tuesday night and early Tuesday morning she had a high fever again and is still vomiting, she is even worse because she can't even hold the water she drinks, and that worries me a lot because I am not managing to hydrate her well, I wanted to take her to the doctor again today but then I thought that tomorrow I should still take her to do the blood test, there we will see how she continues and if there is any medication that can be given to stop vomiting and thus hydrate and eat well so that she recovers.


It frustrates me that nothing I prepare for her to eat makes her nauseous, I bought her coconut water, jelly, fruit and I made her a good chicken soup with pumpkin that I liquefied so that she could drink it in a cream puff and nothing, I don't know if the stomach symptoms are normal with dengue, but I hope that it will pass because it has been many days without eating well, the good thing is that she is a healthy girl and has a good weight so she has not decompensated and she has withstood the fever. 

As I write this I feel terribly tired, my head hurts and I don't know how many days I haven't slept well, but in reality my tiredness is the least of it, she must be feeling worse than me, I know that until she recovers I will be in a state of alert and I thought that maybe by sharing this with others I will release a little of the pressure.
