Masked - A Freewrite Rant

*I haven't been writing for a while. Life has been so busy and I didn't feel that I had the time, energy, muse to write anything. Well, today, I seemed to have a rant in me and here it is.*

*Part of the inspiration for this is that I just found out that a co-worker of my husband's tested positive and at the same time, my sister wrote some anti-mask stuff and I am not at ease - let's just call it that...*

I am so tired of all the people that want to argue masks - wearing masks as if it is something that is such a big deal.
It is the same people that are wearing pants when in public, There are signs on the stores that read
No shoes - No shirt - No service.
Maybe those signs are only in warm areas by the beach. I don't know. the whole deal is that for some reason, we have decided that we should be wearing clothing while out in public,. a mask is just a piece of clothing - nothing else. A piece of clothing that is protecting us and others.
There are work areas you only can enter with a hard helmet and steel-toed shoes - to protect the worker from things that could happen. Do people protest? No. I don't hear that God told them that they can wear barefoot in those areas and shouldn't wear shoes to protect them from nails.
It is that we only see danger when it is visible. That if we can't see, we can't know?
I don't know. But I think that all those that are railing and ranting are masking some deep fear they have in themselves.
Is it fear of knowledge? That we have to admit that something is dangerous. Or fear of not conforming to some ideology that seems to be out there right now and is so far from common sense.
All that argue against wearing a mask must also argue against a doctor wearing a mask and gloves during surgery, right?
Oh wait. It took a long time for doctors to wash their hands between patients since they thought it was nonsense - even though, and forgive my ignorance here because I don't remember the name of the doctor who tried to promote handwashing between patients - mostly woman having babies at the time and dying like flies- anyway, even though that doctor showed great patient outcomes when he started washing hands between each exam...

Ignaz Semmelweis was resisted in his day as well ... people refuse wisdom quite often, and love folly.  HOWEVER, there is a bigger argument going on and the masks have just fallen into it ... there are people refusing to be governed because they are resisting the overall demographic change coming in the nation determining WHO will rule in a democratic system, within 20-30 years.  Some people are convinced that the end of what they consider freedom is at hand, and a mask is one more symbol of the loss of that freedom.  Today we still read that as the fear of "liberals" and "Democrats," but the big change coming is "female majority" and "non-white majority" and therefore the inevitability that those who are charge will change and that cultural norms held as superior will be challenged and go into eclipse.  Sen. Lindsey Graham burst out in 2015 or 2016 about the country already not having enough "angry old white men" for Republicans to remain competitive into the future, so the cat is out of the bag.  The mask bit is just the latest spot for a futile last stand ...

I one hundred percent agree with you and we see it all the time. These past 4 years were a constant outcry to go back to the good old days of white male landowners being in charge.
So sad.
And I do have some concern of what kind of out lashing of those stuck in the fear of change will bring upon all of us...

I would think 13 million sick and 90 Americans dying PER HOUR with NO END IN SIGHT with nearly 300,000 dead is a pretty good indication of how bad it IT IS and could yet get ... the sad irony of the matter is, though, that those who refuse to take precautions will cap their own ability to affect the future.  When you fight reality, reality takes you down.

Yeah right, i I don't get it too. Fortunately, most of Malaysians have no problem wearing mask and now we fancy buying mask with patterns and decorations. It's like a hype thing. And colourful mask. And those masks with cartoon super cute.

Wearing mask really does help to prevent spreading. At least the droplets contain in the mask not floating freely to let others breathe in. So you get to smell your own stinky breath hehe.

@mariannewest I also have family members that are against wearing a mask, they say and post crap about not living in fear, I try to tell them it is not living in fear but it is about "living" and the love you have for others. It falls on deaf ears, I hope no one in their homes come down with it but I think that is what it would take for them to change. The ones that post the most about anti-mask are also the ones who claim to be Christians and are big in church-going. I have nothing against going to church but I do have a problem with saying you care about people but refuse to wear the mask. My rant is over. Stay safe my friend.

As my Christian ancestors put it out, "Ev'rybody talkin' 'bout Heaven ain't goin' dere."  Some churchgoing folks back in the day were cool with slavery and lynchings too, so big church-going is not an indication of real faith ... real faith does not walk contrary to reality or to the needs of others.  However, the thing about folks that claim the name of Christ ... if they DO belong to Him, He will SHARPLY correct them.  We hate that the correction will be so SHARP this time in history, but those that need it will get it.
