<br/>Today I want to talk to you The bridge "General Rafael Urdaneta", also known as the "bridge over Lake Maracaibo", one of the most important engineering works in the world, built in Venezuela with reinforced and prestressed concrete, has a length of 8.678 my 134 batteries. that connects Maracaibo and San Francisco with other Zulian municipalities and the rest of the country.


This bridge was tendered internationally during the dictatorial government of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez, who because of his overthrow did not manage to conclude the contracting, the work of the work began and three years later it was inaugurated, on August 24, 1962, by the president of Venezuela Rómulo Betancourt.

It is important to note that it is considered the first modern bridge of its kind; in fact, the technology for its offshore construction designed entirely by Venezuelans, which involved the design of barges for driving piles (hammer barges) and piles for the type of bed that the lake presents, accessories for the distribution of loads to be lifted, technological milestones that have gone unnoticed and of which there are few historical records.

At the beginning of the 21st century it was renovated and illuminated in its six major pillars, using 96 600 W luminaires, which can change color. This lighting system of Danish manufacture was designed to be contemplated from the city of Maracaibo.

Until 2009 the Zulianos could enjoy at night of great cloudiness as the lights illuminate the clouds. The vandalism and lack of maintenance that this bridge had made the electrical defenses inoperative.
 
Currently installation has an exhibition hall and audiovisual room where documentaries are projected on the techniques used for the construction of the structure, guided tours of the control and monitoring facilities of the bridge, viewpoints with coastal binoculars and other tourist and cultural attractions.
