Getting SteemIT even more mainstream. Its starts with MOMMA and BitCoin.
Believe it or not the path will be thru Momma.  I will show you some tips for a successful path for Momma to BitCoin, then to SteemIT (I am still working on this part).

Here we will discuss some tips to get your Mom to use BitCoin.

I have successfully opened the door to my mother using BitCoin and I thought I would share some tips I have read and some that have actually worked for me.

Some people believe that only young people are the only fans of BitCoin or crypto currency.  This is obviously not as true a statement as once thought.  There are many of us that use BitCoin and are not as young as we would like to be.  Now I will say, your mother will not be discussing Merkle trees or discussing in depth about the blockchain (only that it exists) but we will delve into a way for her to use and appreciate the wonderful world of decentralization and BitCoin.  She may even feel pretty cool that she is aware of this decentralized financial world that exists and participates in something she may have only heard of here and there in the news.

Here are some tips.

1. Share with her what she can buy with BitCoin and highlight what great discounts you can get.

To start, Amazon, the largest online marketplace, used by most and probably that includes her.  For example, if you take a look at the PurseIO (featured in the Wall Street Journal and Forbes to name a few) this website allows you to search for, purchase Amazon items and receive an additional 5% discount at checkout, this is in addition to Amazon’s already amazing prices.  They have an IOS and Android app that you can use this service for as well.  Gyft, a website where you can buy gift cards for over 200 retailers also accepts BitCoin for payment.

2. Show her that you can donate using BitCoin and thru one of the many site like BitGive.

The BitGive Foundation allows you to donate bitcoin and apply it to multiple charitable causes, for example Save the Children, Medic Mobile and the Water Project to name a few.

3. Show her the ease of getting medicines from Bitcoin pharmacies.

Your mom or dad may have recurring medications, by visiting your doctor each time for a refill is an old practice and expensive.  You can share with your mom that she can instead use one of the many sites out there like CoinRX,  MedsForBitcoin, or The Swiss Pharmacy. This process can be completed easily online and using BitCoin.

4. Show how easy it is to pay bills online with BitCoin.

Your mother may pay the mortgage by bank transfer, the cable bills by credit card, and the electric bill by check. She never sure which day which payments clears.  Demonstrate alternative services such as Bill Pay For Coins, where you can pay any bill in exchange for her bitcoins, with a small 1.99% fee. There are a lot more services like this on the web these days.  She can take some comfort knowing that her BitCoin account will be debited immediately. Balancing the checkbook would be something of the past for these accounts.

5. Purchase a hardware wallet for her to hold her coins.

If there is fear of having her coins stolen you could buy her a hardware wallet and she could be made to feel much more comfortable about her newfound currency.
Trezor, one of the leading hardware wallets is about US$109 or Ledger Nano is a little more at US$146 or so.
My mother, for example gets excited with new gadgets so this went over real well.
Ok, so now that we have transitioned her to the base platform crypto currency, let’s make our next move.

Introducing Momma to SteemIT

Now I am not sure about your mother but mine is a FaceBook fanatic for an older lady.  Yes, she posts pictures of the grandkids and stories about them.  However, she also writes lengthy articles or posts with her friends, family and extended people thru her connections there.  Natural transition would be, ok, so you are doing all this work on FaceBook to make these posts which start all kinds of discussions and then have people come out of the wood work for an particular subject to express their opinion, why would you not want to get PAID for this work?  Maybe even get noticed by others and get even more open discussion on these topics of interest.

Now, I will admit, I have gotten my mother to use BitCoin, purchased the wallet for her and she is paying some bills online.  I still am working on her to join SteemIT and getting closer every day.  I will not give up and will get her here, I know it.  I think right now, she just is used to FaceBook and this still seems foreign to her. 
 
I will keep working and will keep you updated.

Also, I do believe when we get some of the older moms on board, it will be a greater faster path to full mainstream adoption.
