I'm a fan of old American movies, those typical clichés full of over the top jokes and pathetically funny actions that really make me laugh. I like the performances of the African American actors, I am a fan of their culture, the music, the style of clothing, the gestures, all are elements that seem cool to me, it's like a place where they are the kings and not the rejects, as it used to happen. 

American cinema is full of films like this since the 80's, there were many social events that promoted the acceptance of blacks, a power that swept everything and now they are still strong in the hierarchy. Not only do they have films and documentaries to reflect and soften the heart, personally, I think they are kings of comedy.

Their portrayals of people in the hood, the direct message to loyalty, and manhood, are things that stand out, so I've been giving myself a chance to re-evaluate those films I used to watch with fascination, and I have to say that even though I find actions stupid or unacceptable I still like them, especially the endings. However, the misogyny, infidelity, excessive lust and verbal abuse in those days was disgusting. Obviously you still see them, but it seems that every day more respect is instilled, and I hope that new productions are plagued with that, while that happens I'll tell you a little about **Love costs nothing**, this remake a little ridiculous and funny from 2003.

This movie tells the story of Alvin, a shy and nice guy with basic ambitions that seem memorable: to be popular. Accompanying the main character is Paris, the hottest and most popular girl who is only labeled as the future wife of an NBA player. The two work in harmony to put together a plot full of lies to fulfill their own goals. With plenty of comedy and light touches of romance, this scenario at times seems monotonous but has a nice ending.

The film is directed by actress Troy Beyer and written by her and Michael Swerdlick, in which they try to teach some lessons in silence. Scenes with sex education facts, which may well be awkward and funny, but at the end of the day can be useful to remove the blindfold of sexual taboo. It also has some interesting lines about friendship, self-improvement, dreams and goals. 

I must point out that this film is full of stereotypes, something very well seen during that time, something that sold. The popular, the rejects, the boy who plays basketball, the cheerleader, the nerd, the troublemakers and the saffron girls; the absent parents and the ones who expect things to work themselves out, the irritating little sister and if I go on I would describe the whole movie without telling it. Now, I see that there is an abuse of this in the movies of those years, and I am sure that if I see any current youth production they will continue to make the same mistakes, although not on a large scale, or so I hope.

There is a clear message in this film, the influence of people can not alter who we really are, true friends accept and appreciate you as you are, a special reflection quite trite that is not superfluous to remember. This film has a good musical setting of the time, hip-hop and rap still dominated the streets, so it's like witnessing the 2000's at its peak.  This is an essentially urban genre, now considered a cinematic precursor to the first wave of rap. An African-American teenage romantic comedy that may grab your attention the first time you see it, but it's not memorable enough for repeat viewings.


I'm actually surprised that this remake of 1987's **You Can't Buy My Love** was nominated for six awards at the BET Comedy Awards and the Teen Choice Awards. It's a story that elicits cringe-inducing embarrassment and rueful laughter, yet the last 15 minutes seem to save the whole thing. Alvin comes to his senses, accepts that he has made a mistake, apologizes in an original way and gets the girl.

A 100 minute comedy and distributed by Warner Bros that you can currently watch on Netflix catalog. It is by far in the best I've seen, but I'll take the good, the nice, the pleasant, at the end I was meditating on a floating incognita am I living as me or am I pretending to be someone else? And you?

Soy fan de las peículas viejas americanas, esos típicos clichés llenos de chistes subidos de tonos y acciones pateticamente divertidas que realmente me hacen reír. Me gustan las actuaciones de los actores afroamericanos, soy fan de su cultura, la música, el estilo de ropa, los gestos, todos son elementos que me parecen cool, es como un lugar en donde ellos son los reyes y no los rechazados, como comúnmente pasaba. 

El cine americano está repleto de películas así desde los 80, ocurrieron muchos eventos sociales que promovieron la aceptación de los negros, un poderío que arrasó con todo y que ahora se mantienen con fuerza en la jerarquía. No solo tienen películas y documentales para reflexionar y ablandar el corazón, en lo personal, pienso que son unos reyes de la comedia.

Sus representaciones de las personas de barrio, el mensaje directo a la lealtad, y la hombría, son cosas que destacan, así que me he estado dando el chance de evaluar de nuevo esas películas que antes veía con fascinación, y he de decir que aunque encuentro acciones estúpidas o inaceptables me siguen gustando, sobre todo los finales. Sin embargo, la misogínia, la infidelidad, la lujuria en exceso y el abuso verbal en esos tiempos era asqueroso. Obvio aún se ven, pero parece que cada día se infunde más el respeto, y espero que las nuevas producciones vayan plagadas de eso, mientras eso pasa les hablaré un poco de **El amor no cuesta nada**, este remake un poco rídiculo y divertido del 2003.

Esta película cuenta la historia de Alvin, un chico tímido y agradable con ambiciones básicas que parecen memorables: ser popular. En acompañamiento de personaje principal tenemos a Paris, la chica más popular y candente que solo es tachada como la futura esposa de un NBA. Ambos hacen una armonía para armar una trama llena de mentiras para cumplir con sus propias metas. Con bastante comedia y toques ligeros de romance, este escenario a veces parece monotono pero consta de un final agradable.

La película es dirigida por la actriz Troy Beyer y escrita por ella y Michael Swerdlick, en donde tratan de dar algunas lecciones en silencio. Escenas con datos de educación sexual, que bien pueden ser incómodas y chistosas, pero que al final del día pueden servir de provecho para quitar la venda del tabú sexual. Además tiene ciertas líneas interesantes sobre la amistad, la superación, los sueños y las metas. 

Debo acotar que este film está repleta de estereotipos, algo muy bien visto durante ese tiempo, algo que vendía. Los populares, los rechazados, el chico que juega basket, la porrista, el nerd, los problematicos y las safriscas; los padres ausentes y los que esperan que las cosas se arreglen solas, la hermana pequeña irritante y si sigo decribo toda la película sin contarla. Ahora, veo que hay un abuso de esto en las pelícualas de esos años, y estoy segura que si veo alguna producción actual juvenil seguirán cometiendo los mismo errores, aunque no ha gran escala, o eso espero.

Existe un claro mensaje en esta película, la influencia de las personas no puede alterar quienes somos realmente, los verdaderos amigos te aceptan y aprecian tal y como eres, una especial reflexión bastante trillada que no está de más recordar. Este film consta con buena ambientación musical de la época, el hip-hop y el rap dominaban las calles todavía, así que es como estar presenciando los 2000 en su máximo esplendor.  Este es un género esencialmente urbano, hoy considerado precursor cinematográfico de la primera ola del rap. Una comedia romantica juvenil afroamericana que puede captar la atención la primera vez que la ves, pero no es lo suficientemente memorable para repetir.


La verdad  me sorprende que este remake de **No puedes comprar mi amor** de1987 haya sido nominada a seis galardones en los BET Comedy Awards y en los Teen Choice Awards. Es una historia que provoca verguenza ajena y risas de arrepentimientos, sin embargo los últimos 15 minutos parecen salvar todo el trabajo. Alvin recapacita en sus errores, acepta que se ha equivocado, se disculpa de manera original y se queda con la chica.

Una comedia de 100 minutos y distribuida por Warner Bros que puedes ver actualmente en el catalago de Netflix. Está de lejos en lo mejor que he visto, pero me quedo con lo bueno, lo bonito, lo agradable, al final estuve meditando en una incognita flotante ¿estoy viviendo como yo o estoy fingiendo ser alguien más? ¿Y tú?
