## <center>Prompt: After Midnight</center>

These thoughts never made there way into his head during the daylight hours. They would never think to ever show their faces while people were around but when he sat alone, closed off from the rest of the world, they made themselves known. Always the same twisted faces smirking at him from the inside. They were unrelenting with their prying eyes, constantly seeking his approval. Each and everyone had it unique quality but none were there for his benefit. 

Sometimes when he was in a really rough state they would even speak to him, telling him that he was worthless, that he had no place in this world. Why are you even breathing, one would say, while another would cackle in response. They knew his deepest insecurities, they knew what wounds to pour the most salt into. A constant barrage of insults and torment from the inter workings of the mind. He looked up from this torrent of thoughts and stared eye to eye with his reflection in the mirror. He though, why am I like this? Why can I not silence this insanity? I wasn't always like this, right? 

From what he could recall there was a time in the past when there was no chaos like this existing in his mind. Their were memories of the myriad of colors as he walked to work bringing him tremendous joy. The songs the birds would sing would keep to the beat of his footsteps, left... right... left... right.... Where had this evil come from? In the moment there was no answer to this question but he knew they would always be there with him after midnight.

Thanks again, Maslowmission, for spreading the love of the freewrite and Freewrite house!
Without the bustle of the day to concentrate on, and when there isn't anyone around to distract us, so many of our darker thoughts take the quiet times of the night to rear their heads.  I've too often wondered where they came from, when they started, and why I let them get to me so much.  
I suppose that I'm lucky in that I can usually distract myself again by doing something (dancing with headphones, baking, or some such).  For me, I feel better afterwards if I've done something productive (though sometimes I'm tired as all get out the next day!)  I'm not sure if that'll work for you, but you're not alone with these thoughts.

Today's prompt is being performed by the Freewrite Deku Choir!  (They've asked that the citizens of Freewrite please extinguish all flames while they sing as they are a flammable species!)

Of course @brisby. Want to spread awareness of something that has brought me a fair amount of joy thus far. 

Luckily this freewrite was not really rooted in an experience I was having in the moment or even in recent times. The Prompt is what drove the story and I kind of just rolled with what was coming up out of my mind. It is hard though when these thoughts arise to combat them, especially if one does not have coping mechanisms to escape the feedback loops of thoughts. Sounds like you have some really nice ways of getting you out of these patterns though :)

Many a times I feel this tinge of feelings in midnight . Sometimes they rise from typical me and sometimes the haunted ones creep me . Good work around the prompt @maslowmission
