Not So Subtle

It's been forever since I've felt so whole
The years behind me
I've thought it impossible
Together forever as the story goes
But pages are burning
And it isn't possible

I see the words you wrote down
Were they meant to be subtle?
My eyes can see they were meant for me
You're hinting at your disgust
And say that you're seeing red
And my eyes can see it was aimed at me

It's been weeks since I've felt this hole
The years before me
I guess it's possible
To be frightened to trust again
As the pages are burning
No storybook ending

I see the words you wrote down

Don't tell me that we'll stay friends
