I've came across this right now at work. I'm working on some Bugzilla email encryption issue with .p7m attachments (still not sure what the solution will be) and while doing my reserach, I came across this.

Snapmail is a Chrome extension which allows you to send a "time-limited" email to someone. You need to install the extension and it adds green Snapmail button to your email composer.

To send time-limited self-destructive email, there are 3 easy steps to be done:
<ol>
<li>Write your message and hit "Snapmail" button instead of Send button</li>
<li>recipient doesn't get the email contents directly but rather a link which he clicks on</li>
<li>Link opens a window where the email is displayed <b>for 60 seconds only</b>. Then it's deleted forever</li>
</ol>

What a cool feature, huh! :)

I can't guarantee this but I guess that if you click the custom snapmail button instead of google's Send button, the message gets encrypted or hashed or something...so google may store that message even if you don't see it in UI anymore...but they store it in the encrypted version soo it is human-unreadable. The only moment when the data are readable are those 60 seconds when Snapmail uses their private encryption key to decrypt the message and show it to the user.

I mean...google has control of their page soo Im sure if they wanted to, they'd develop something to counter the clicking of "Snapmail" button...that in the moment u click it, they also save the text currently being written in your editor...but then they'd have to custom do this always when new tiny project doing this comes up...
