It is not often that I go hiking at night. When I was a kid, I was sent on a few night hikes at summer camp, but I don't really have many memories of them. 

However, I still remember my two previous ascents to the summit of Mt Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, quite well. We left by choice in the middle of the night in order to be at the top just in time for watching the sunrise. And for that we had to walk through the dark night and of course climb a steep volcano. But after a little preparation it was no big deal anymore, but a lot of fun. Even though I probably had to huff and puff a few times in between.

But I was rewarded for the efforts all the way, and even in the middle of the night we had a great view. Once you get used to the darkness, you can see quite a bit in the moonlight, and the night sky and clouds showed a whole new, but very fascinating side. 

In addition, it was also extremely quiet around us, except for our breath most of the time there was no other sound to hear. There were not many other hikers going up at the end of the season so we were mostly just by ourselves. A great experience that I am very grateful to have had. And when I think about it, I would even want to do it again. Who is coming along next time?

Es kommt nicht oft vor, dass ich nachts auf Wanderung gehe. Als Kind wurde ich wohl einige Male im Ferienlager auf Nachtwanderung geschickt, aber so richtig sind mir davon nicht so viele Erinnerungen im Gedächtnis haften geblieben. 

Ganz anders war das bei meinen zwei bisherigen Aufstiegen zum Gipfel des Mt Fuji, des höchsten Berges Japans. Hierbei sind wir ganz freiwillig in der Mitte der Nacht aufgebrochen, um rechtzeitig zum Sonnenaufgang ganz oben zu sein. Und dafür mussten wir natürlich durch die dunkle Nacht laufen und dabei einen Vulkan erklimmen. Aber mit ein wenig Vorbereitung war das letztenlich kein großes Problem sondern ein Riesenspaß. Auch wenn ich wahrscheinlich zwischendurch einige Male ins Schnaufen gekommen bin.

Aber für die Anstrengungen wurde ich durchgehend belohnt, selbst in der Mitte der Nacht bot sich uns eine tolle Aussicht. Wenn man sich erst einmal an die Dunkelheit gewöhnt hat, kann man im Mondschein eine ganze Menge sehen, und der Nachthimmel und die Wolken zeigten sich von einer ganz neuen, aber sehr faszinierenden Seite. 

Zusätzlich war es auch extrem ruhig um uns herum, meist war außer unserem Atem kein anderes Geräusch zu vernehmen, denn mit uns waren nicht viele anderen Wanderer mehr unterwegs. Eine tolle Erfahrung, für die ich sehr dankbar bin, sie gemacht haben zu dürfen. Und wenn ich es mri genau überlege, würde ich es sogar noch einmal wiederholen wollen. Wer kommt denn mit?
