*The valley looked impenetrable. It smelled of despair and voices that were extincted.*

*Ian is not coming ... [she thought lapped in a late coldness]. And where should I go...? The mud covered the whole alley in despair, and the quietness of the trees urged her more and more into the house.*

*She lightened the small lamp and looked at the pictures with him.*

*Do you still love me, Ian...? You don't even know how many movies I've made in my head. I told myself you're with someone more beautiful than me who makes you feel like a man.* 

*My body seems to entice me to untie my hair at a nearby door, but your memory pervades my heart and does not leave me.*

*I read philosophy, religion, spirituality, I am somehow looking for a place to find you and never leave. And what is love but an illusion...? If I think about it, you can even stop coming. I have this muddy alley in front of me every time I open the door, and just as I saw you leave, I can think you're still here.*

*Do you know those mothers who lose their children and in their sick imagination adopt a doll that they raise and invest it with their lives? Well, I'm going to walk down this street and pretend to come every time I leave.*

We meet a woman who is experiencing profound despair.  Accepting the truth, that Ian will not return, is unbearable. She admits to herself, to readers, that she will create an illusion that Ian is returning.  It is an illusion she needs in order to live with her pain. 

Your use of imagery and symbolism is very effective at conveying not only ideas, but mood.
