On a couple occasions I've found myself in a situation where I had the opportunity to exact revenge on someone who offended me. Needless to say, it feels good when you finally take your pound of flesh and banish that memory that has tormented you for years. I've always heard about Karma since I was little. The fact that everyone - Christians, Muslims, traditionalists, pagans, atheists, etc. - believes so much in it makes it even more compelling.

Tomorrow, Ghana - for the first time in 12 years - will be faced with the possibility of avenging their brutal and emotional loss to Uruguay. Back in 2010, the Black Stars carried the hopes of a continent as an African team aimed to make the semifinal of the World Cup for the first time. The fact that the tournament was played in South Africa made it all the more compelling. Well, that hope was dashed in the most brutal of fashion as Asamoah Gyan lost an awarded penalty in the dying minutes after Luis Suarez stopped Appiah's effort with his hands on the goal line.

For years I detested Suarez for that singular act. The fact that the wily Uruguayan continued to make headlines for the wrong reasons only added more fuel to my dislike for the dude. But, just like he said yesterday, he is not to blame for the events of 2010. He was sent off and Ghana got awarded a penalty, which they lost. Also, Uruguay played extra 30 minutes of football with a man down and Ghana failed to capitalize before losing out on penalty shootouts. Asamoah Gyan confirmed he cried for days because of the scenario. I'd like to guess he wasn't the only one who cried bitterly back then. Even till today, a lot of Africans still carry that hurt with them. So, it looks like karma is about to strike again. Right?

If you are going on a revenge mission, make sure you are strong enough to strike down your opponent. Else, it will be another lesson in pain, regret and reproach. A lot of people will be supporting Ghana to finally punish Uruguay for the 2010 heartache. The question is, are the Ghanaians strong enough to finally take their pound of flesh? Do they have what it takes to knock Uruguay out? A win over Uruguay will get the job done. An emphatic victory with a scoreline of like 4-0 or 5-0 will only make the revenge act a more enjoyable one. At worst, a draw coupled with South Korea not winning Portugal will get Ghana to the next round and send Uruguay home. Whatever happens in those games, tomorrow is yet another day to once again test the potency of the dreaded five letter word - karma! I will be watching. And, I hope this revenge will be well served!
