I was inspired to write this by @josediccus. He wrote about his health battle [here](https://peakd.com/hive-153850/@josediccus/revisiting-my-health-condition) and it really got to me (in a good way)! I can relate.  It's encouraged me to be more forthcoming with my own health battle.  I've touched a little on it before, but I am can I try to go a little bit more in depth.

# The Condition

OK, I'll try to keep this brief. In 1997, I was diagnosed with AOA2.  That is shorthand for, Ataxia with Ocular-motor Apraxia, Type Two.  I know it's a mouthful, right? Basically, it's s degenerative neurological disease that affects my balance, eye movements, speech, and coordination.  It is an extremely rare condition, affecting approximately 1 in 900,000 people...

# The Symptoms

Because of my balance and coordination problems, I use a wheelchair. I cannot walk without a lot of assistance I get tremors in my hands, and my hands are very clumsy and weak. My dexterity sucks. I cannot write or use a computer very well. (I am doing this post by voice to text and it will take me some time to edit.) My eyes are messed up too- I see double!  But, perhaps the worst symptom on I face, is the constant fatigue!  The symptoms are ever-changing, depending on the day. Sometimes they're good, other times they're bad.

# Health Is Everything

Despite my situation, I try my best to be as healthy as I can! I have physical therapy twice a week, and I try to go to the gym around 3 to 4 times a week. I only get 1 to 2 rest days, and I like it that way. I have never been stronger, and other than my disease, I'm pretty healthy.

I try to eat relatively healthy, too! I guess I'm just trying to give my body the tools to adapt my situation. I think it's working.

# I'm Blessed

This disease is a lot, but don't feel sorry for me! I don't! I have a lot to be thankful for. I have a wonderful son, and an amazing family. I don't think I could do it without them.

My disease has given me a lot more positives, than negatives.  It has taught me so much!
