<p><em>(I have no idea how Neil Gaiman writes his books. &nbsp;But he certainly seems to be able to play with time.</em>)</p>
<p>Well, that's really not true. &nbsp;I just finished putting down a little over 1,000 words in my next Dolbin book. &nbsp;I have already written the ending chapters. &nbsp;I know where it is going, and I've written the beginning. &nbsp;But I need to finish the book, I've been working on it too long. &nbsp;So, I'm working backwards, until I get to the end of book 3. &nbsp;(Which I just posted on Steemit a few weeks ago.)</p>
<h2>Getting out of the timeline</h2>
<p>But that is the beauty of writing fiction. &nbsp;Simply because the reader experiences the book from beginning to end does not mean you need to write it that way. &nbsp;You as the author are allowed to jump out of the timeline of your book, your world.</p>
<h2>Every project is different</h2>
<p>And every book, every project is different. &nbsp;Last summer I blogged a book here on Steemit. &nbsp;Irving Williams and the Mystery of the Lighthouse Ghost, first appeared as blog posts here on Steemit. &nbsp;I started that book completely in the dark. &nbsp;I had no idea where it was going. &nbsp;I wrote that story as it appeared in my head. &nbsp;Some minor details were fixed as I transferred the book from blog posts to actual posts, but 99% of book appeared as a blog post.</p>

You know, i am trying to keep my writing regular enough to have decent material and in some point publish it. I liked your post, in fact, i would add something it is valuable to your proposition *the reader experiences the book from beginning to end does not mean you need to write it that way. * , *Julio Cortazar* in his book *Rayuela* proves that starting from the end, and then going to several places before arriving to the end it is very interesting indeed. The book is written in a strange order, the reader has to follow particular rules to read it. [Here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopscotch_(Cort%C3%A1zar_novel)), you can see more info.
