Having a special dinner with the knights. A throwback to our visit in Ognyanovo, Bulgaria.
It’s been a while since our visit in Ognyanovo back a few months ago. I have been quite busy the last weeks(months) and it is just now that I find some time to share a wonderful dinner with you. I and my wife visited this village and attended a very artistic hotel for celebrating her birthday, so one of the evenings we went to the hotel’s restaurant to have a special dinner.

Before you reach the restaurant’s entrance, there is a knight that welcomes all the guests. We loved the place for its uniqie design and the topic that wents all around, both on the inside and out. The atmosphere of the hotel really takes you back a pot of centuries and you dice in the world of knights and medieval castles. Of course there are a lot more conveniences nowadays, but still the spirit is here.

This whole trip was about my wife’s birthday, so we decided to pamper ourselves a little bit with a special dinner. 

The starter that we ordered was a tomato salad, with avocado, argula and some walnuts. Of course, with the salad a good Rakia is always well appreciated. My wife was pregnant back then, so she had to enjoy just plain water. Not a good celebration drink, huh?

As a side dish we decided to enjoy some grilled goat cheese with honey ans nuts. I haven’t had a grilled cheese in a while back then and it felt so amazing, creamy on the inside and crunchy top on the outside. The honey really made a great compliment to the cheese.

After a while it came time for the main dishes and although there wasnt that much of a vast choice, there was still a number of different meat, or vegetarian dishes. A time for decisions was needed and I wasn’t sure if I want to go with beef meat, or with pork. All the choices sounded yummy!

And while I was still deciding, my wife ordered duck fillet accompanied with pineapple, hazelnut and Marsala liqueur wine. A nice little touch was this persimon fruit in the plate. It was the first time I tried this and I liked it, although it had a little bit strange taste to me.

Well, my final decision was pork tenderloin with almond crust and baked potato with demiglas sauce. It looked amazing. I wanst quite sure about the degree of readiness. I didn’t want my tenderloin to be overcooked. Time to check?

Amazing! It was very juicy on the inside. The chefs did a spectacular job worh this meat and the seasoning was impressive too. Sometimes restaurants do a terroble job into processing the food, but this was not the case in the medieval castle.

Another nice touch was that the restaurant offered some more special beer. Hoegaarden belgian wit came to make company to the pork tenderloin. Again, I didn’t have belgian beer in a lot of time and it was well enjoyed. The last time I had a Hoegaarden beer was like 5 years ago. I admire its light body and complex taste. 

After we finished the main dishes we weren’t sure if we want dessert ot not. We were so full with these tasty dishes. The wise decision was to skip the cake and leave it for the other day. We had more than enough this evening.

So, this was our experience in the medieval restaurant. We sincerely hope to visit this place again one day, but who knows… until then, we will watch our photos and remember the great experience we had there.
