### PEAKd Hive Frontend implements Text to Speech 

If you have recently utilised the [PEAKD](https://peakd.com/) Hive front end you will have noticed a new inclusion which enables readers to listen to the post rather than read it. 

This change is a revolutionary step forward for the Hive blockchain as not only does it support a range of different uses and benefits, but it also enables people living with a disability to participate equally within our wonderful community. 

It also extends the ability for other nations who may not be as strong in the English language to spend less time trying to pronounce words and more time listening to their application. Language has two parts written and spoken which, for many people who speak English as a first language will know that not all our words and letters align which provides a confusing environment for many people learning the language.

### Supported Learning 

There is a lot of literature out there that can go into depth on the benefits of [text to speech ](https://www.readingrockets.org/article/text-speech-tts#:~:text=This%20technology%20is%20popular%20among,to%20sound%20out%20the%20words.) especially for students and people learning new skills. As much of the content on Leo Finance and more broadly on Hive revolved around learned experiences i.e. @motherhood @homeedders @splinterlands @hivemotors just to name a few which focus on teaching and showcasing skills. Text to speech will support integration between multiple cultures. 

This will open more opportunities not only for people but for the Hive blockchain and the associated communities that are developing their locally built content. 

Your first point for all initiatives is access and how people access what you're offering plays a big role in not only success for yourself but the success of the project overall.

### Review of current Text to Speech 

The current text to speech only activates for blogs with over 200 words and I have been testing it out on a few posts beyond my own. 

**How does it stack up?**

*Work in progress*. While it is a great addition to PEAKD and it is still only newly added, the text to speech is passable however, it does have some set backs in pronunciation and gramma. For a computer program that is just identifying words it's ok. 

But I can see some people struggling to follow articles if the become to wordy and the right pronunciations or context isn't delivered. At current it is just a robotic male voice without tone or an accent but overall it is doing ok.
