Brain Dump: On Dev Unity, Social Ineptitude, and Hivesnaps (Eng/Esp)
I'm in the middle of compiling a revised beta version of Hivesnaps. If it all goes well, in just a few hours there will be another post detailing all the upgrades I've jammed into it over the last few days. I am burning myself out a bit, but truth is, I can't think of anything else I should be doing.

![Ai generated](https://images.ecency.com/DQmSwgsrnvVV2DN3C4pBjkxNaXd8rNcBXhCdzsZgX74Xs6A/devs_in_the_kitchen.png)

Of course I love writing on this blog. It's therapeutic, to me at least. I don't know if I'm traumatizing someone reading it, but I'm not interested in just waiting to see where the price action goes. And to be completely honest, I need the moonshot at this point. Like plenty of you, I'm sure.

That said, there's this particular phrase that keeps returning to my head. A friend not long ago told me he finds it frustrating that Hive has a unity problem. I'm not sure he would call it that, but that's what I'm choosing to call it. "Repeat work" is a pet peeve of his, from what I can gather. I thought he was exaggerating, maybe just a little bit, but turns out he was spot on. As of me writing this blog entry, there are five point of sale systems being developed for Hive. And yes, I'm part of the guilty parties. Not to be confused with our top ten Hive witness (inside joke, I know).

But what is the alternative?

Yes, I know we could somehow get together, talk it out, find consensus and possibly build something amazing beyond belief. But I'm sure everyone else is thinking the exact thing I'm thinking: too many chefs in the kitchen.

Of course my expertise is not software, less so software development at this scale. But I did manage people, lots of people, and I did have a music project for over a decade. So I think I can safely say that in order for such collaboration to take place, someone has to stand out greatly among the group and take charge, take control, become dictatorial even. But who will do such a thing? Certainly not me. I'm not remotely close to being qualified, and I'm certainly not interested.

Which lands me with both feet right into my preliminary conclusion. Coders, developers, devs, whatever you want to call them, are cursed with their gift. Why? Because they work in a field where collaboration can make the difference between failed projects and successful ones, and yet lots of devs are socially inept. I say this lovingly, of course. I say this because my own brother is a great developer, and yes, he can be socially inept. In stark contrast to all the adeptness he has in his batman utility belt.

However

This reality, this grayscale, doesn't make me sad or deterred from what I'm doing. The right attitude has to be: keep moving. And thus, I am. I can only speak for myself, of course, but I'm more than willing to contribute, if asked, to any project that I can add value to. Why wouldn't I? And I suspect the other POS building dudes would too, but for now that will remain a suspicion.

I guess this last line completes today's little brain dump.

The snaps will have to come later.

===================

Ciertamente no yo.

The solution to social ineptitude is a project manager role.

And I'm working on "our friend", and he is seeing some of the benefits to having multiple layers, multiple ways - as when one way doesn't work for a brief moment - here on HIVE we have 3 more ways (almost always).

We are working with the tools, we are working with the teams. He is coming around and learning a lot too - and we from him!

I think the diversity in Hive may be a strength in giving us different options, but it also dilutes the limited development talent. People may just have different ideas about how to do things or they may just want to work with certain people. It helps if they can share code that could be useful to others and we do see some of that. Things like security/authentication are hard and benefit from collaboration.

It's great that anyone can build on Hive with no need for permission.
