It has been a week of Rio de Janeiro on my blog and it will continue to be that way for a while! If you've seen my previous post, you have been exposed to some of the less known places (well.. and the Sugarloaf). This one will include a slightly different set of landmarks, but I hope you will all be just as excited to see those as I am.

Again, we may have missed some great spots, but that is simply a reason to return to Rio! So if you see something we've missed that I haven't included in this or previous post, please let me know in the comments! Every excuse is good to go traveling once more.

The most popular landmark of the city and potentially of the whole country was not something we could pass up on - even if we only actually did it on our last full day! We went in the early morning (we were one of the first ones to get into the first van going up!) in an attempt to at least have a few inches to move and well.. We did, but barely. It was still nearly impossible to enjoy all the views, not to mention take pictures comfortably, which was our big silly hope.

While we failed all of that, just look at what we managed to make out of it anyway (the photo above). While to you it may seem like just a cute photo, for me it reminds me of the time I spent laying on the ground trying to take it - getting trampled by the stampede of other visitors to the platform. It was tons of fun, but at the very moment, I definitely had some doubts about whether it was worth it. 

Most of the other time we spent around Cristo Redentor was walking around the edges and looking out at the view, away from all the people - it was pleasant, as you can see below. This city could never ever get boring - those are not views you'd ever find dull.

Down from Cristo Redentor, you can find the massive Parque Lage - a large green area with multiple parks, as well as a School of Arts within, where you can also sit at a cafe - which we obviously did, as having a coffee and lunch with the beautiful views is right up our alley.

Once you buy a small thing (I really can't remember what it was.. I believe a postcard or just an art piece), you are allowed to walk inside and up and check out the place. It was quite pleasant and enjoyable in there for sure!

Museu do Amanhã, meaning the Museum of Tomorrow in English, is a museum dedicated to caring for our future by putting attention on ecology and sustainability. Inside, there are a lot of interesting exhibits presented in an interactive way - which I believe makes it much more exciting especially for the younger audiences. 

It was built as a part of the area's "renewal" to accommodate the Olympics of 2016 that were held in the city and as you can see it has a pretty interesting shape - I personally like it a lot, both from the inside and the outside and I find it worth it to visit for sure!

I love pretty stairs and I somehow really like almost every picture of myself on stairs - but in this case, Escadaria Selaron is the star of the show. These stairs are a popular tourist attraction, so we had to go early in the morning, but that was simply a great motivation to get out of bed - all in all, no complaining from me! 

The stairs themselves are a work of Jorge Selaron, a Chilean artist who started this as a pastime due to not liking the poor condition the stairway was in. As you can see, it is coloured like the Brazilian flag, made out of tons upon tons of tiles - which he had to pay for by himself, running out of money multiple times.

On both sides of the stairway, there is a lot of red tiles. That is not only his work, however, as there are thousands of tiles that were brought here by visitors from multiple countries and continents - if you do go there, make sure to have a look if there is one from yours! To be completely honest, Escadaria Selaron might have been one of the top places I've seen in Rio - it is truly touching to see a work of passion like this one.

This was likely the final post from the city of Rio de Janeiro itself - unless I find some lost photos in one of my picture folders. But fear not, I am not done with the STATE of Rio de Janeiro. We still visited tons of amazing places that I would like to show you and relive the moments myself. I'd say we're in for at least 3-4 posts more, so stay tuned!
