His dog had become quite old and the cats had created quite a big family. The parrot was now able to speak quite well. He had also many goats that he used to meet his food requirement in terms of meat and milk. He used to kill them before, but due to low gun powder he began to catch and kept them instead.

Credit: blogspot.com

Robinson began to set the traps, so that he could catch the goats easily. He made a large hole into the ground and put sticks and grass over there. When the goats saw the grass, their desire of eating brought them near the hole and as they went over the hole, they fell into it. Thus, he succeeded to catch many goats and kids. He killed and cooked them to feed. He showed them that he was harmless and gradually they became fearless of Robinson. After one and half years he managed to catch twelve goats and within the next two years the numbers had been forty-three. He had already killed some of them to eat. Robinson had never drawn milk from a cow and goat before. Yet he managed to learn this technique. He also didn’t know how to make butter and cheese. After a lot of practice, lastly, he could make it successfully. He managed his life quite well to survive on the island. But he still had a strong desire for human company. If there was another man on the island, he would be very happy. But there was no one except his dog and parrot who entertained him a lot.

Credit: wondersandmarvels.com

Robinson had many fruits in his garden. He dried the grapes in the sunlight to make them raisins and also he was able to make butter and cheese out of the milk that he had drawn from the goats. He could also grow adequate grain and make his own bread. Sometimes he had dreamt that he had returned back to London, and was walking on the road in his clothes made of goatskin. What a funny scene it would be if he would walk on the streets with a long beard, carrying a gun with gun powder bags. He had no shoes to wear and his skins had been brown because of the sun. No one would identify him as Englishman any more.

Seven years had gone since he had left his small boat on the northern side of the island. He had no more patience to voyage and wanted to finish it fast, and also he had to bring his small boat back the home.

Planning to go east and then north, Robinson started moving along the shore. When he was trapped by the hill that was overlooking the ledge of rocks, he was amazed to observe that the sea was quite and smooth. He found no strong current in the sea once he had been trapped in. a question raised in his mind that how had it changed? Then he came to know that the tide was absent. He got the answer of his problem. He now could sail easily until the tide came back again. As the tide would start, the strong current would come again.

Credit: wisc.edu

Being extremely happy, he descended from the hill and got back to the beach. As he moved about five steps, he was shocked to see some footprints in the place where he had not yet went through. There was the footprint of every part of human foot like heels and toes and also looked like the larger than Robinson’s foot.

Robinson was silent and trying to listen any sounds, but he didn’t hear anything. Being frightened, he was looking for more footprints here and there on the beach, but didn’t get. He came back the place where he had found one and looked once more to verify his doubt. It was clearly visible. It was a shape of a human foot. If it was the footprint of human beings and Robinson had never stepped there, then who stepped there? How did he come there? Where did he come from? Where had he gone? Robinson had to be watchful, if someone was still on the island. He kept watching everywhere, even visualizing every bush and tree to be a man on returning his home.

Credit: uhcl.edu

He could not able to sleep that night. He stayed in house for three days and three night until his food back-up was running low. Then he certainly had to search food. During these days he was so frightened and often he would leave his basket and run, thinking that someone was following him. He overcame his fear when he found nothing after three days. He then confused and even started to think that the footprint was probably his own. But when he measured it, he found bigger than his own footprint.

Once he became fearless, he was able to think clearly. When he had landed on the island, since then he had found no human there. But He was still frightened of wild cannibals. So, he wanted no risks and danger. He decided to strengthen his fortress house. He made second wall of stakes around the first wall. He then placed seven guns into the gap between the stakes. He took one month to build it. But he was still feeling uneasiness. However he had become more watchful, he was still scared of wild cannibals.

Credit: deviantart.net

For the next two years, he was not walking around the Eastern end of the island, where he found the footprint of human. Instead of going that side, he started walking towards western side, which he visited once before. He climbed up a hill and overlooked the sea; he seemed that a boat was floating far from there on the sea. Without telescope, it was not possible to become sure and it soon vanished out of sight. He then got down the hill and started to move away from the hill. Suddenly he got to see skulls, feet, hands, bones and other human parts that were scattered there, near the ruins of fire. He then began non-stop vomiting and felt sick. He ran back to home as fast as he could.

After a while, he had become angry and he thought to attack the uncivilized people. He then came to realize that they could be more than twenty and he would be only one against them. Then he came to understand that he had no right to judge them, because they were not aware of any other way of life and never thought they were doing any wrong; just as he didn’t think it wrong before killing and eating animals.

Credit: wordpress.com

He finally decided to hide himself. It would be the wisest move which could save him from cannibals if they came through that way. When they would find no one on the island, they would guess it empty place and moved away from there. In this way he would be safe. He always carried guns, pistols and sword with him.

Follow me
