# Homesteading

## Part 2

Ok, so we got the land for our homestead, now what?

Start building.

Oh yea, no tools cause they are all stuck in Indiana and we can't get back there.

So I bought a couple cheap portable power tools. 2 drills, impact drill and circular saw (small one)

The very first thing I built was a 4' x 8' x 2' box out of 2x4 and 1/4" plywood. With a heavy duty lock on it. We used this the first fall/winter to hold tools and supplies as we built.

I found a free metal shed hour and half away as long as I took the trash in it. Put that up on cement blocks with a floor under it.

Money started getting tight so I started looking for alternative building materials.

Found a guy selling pallet wood who also had sheets of OSB from pallets for 5 bucks. 

My dad always talked about building a pallet home one day. We used to get pallets and pull them apart for the lumber when I was a teenager. So I had all the ideas he would talk about swarming in my head as well.

## The issue with pallet building

Pallets are normally not over 4 feet. With some exceptions of course. Tons of 2x4 but short.

I was dealing with pieces from 2 foot to 4 foot lol all with notches out of them for forklifts.

Oh well, time to build a home.

Buying pallet lumber saved us a lot of money.

I got a box of 2 1/2" dryall screws and a box of 1 1/4" ones as well. The big 25lb box

Started drilling and screwing, putting each pallet board staggered each other to make something sorta like a 4 x 4 beam lol.

We had nothing we owned before from Indiana. I had to rebuy every tool and supply I already owned back in Indiana.

You see, we lost a total of 5 good vehicles within the first year to year and a half. 

So we never really moved here...

We got stranded here, on our homestead. 

All the planning I had been doing for years was of no use without all my tools.

So here we are stranded on our own property in the middle of nowhere quickly running out of money and having to buy every single tool I'd been planning to use out here for years.

Homesteading land is now not looking so pretty.
