When Dollar Vigilante first arrived on the platform I thought this was great news for Steemit as it would encourage new users. I even wrote an article stating my enthusiasm and my respect for Jeff Berwick. I, like many here, was rather disappointed with his dismissive response to many Steemians' legitimate concerns to the way Steemit seemed to be headed. His last post was trending a few minutes ago at nearly $2,000 but suddenly dropped off to below $20. I congratulate the whales and Dolphins for listening to the sentiment over the last few hours and withdrawing their upvotes. Let's hope this will bring a change in attitude to how we vote and focus on quality. I think the Whales realise that their best interests and the long term health of Steemit is to listen to the little guys. If only this model could be implemented within Politics! All said and done, I am still a big fan of Jeff Berwick and wish him all the best. I realise, like any human would, he came out fighting because he felt he was being unfairly attacked, which I think he was. After all, why attack someone simply for having success? However, I think it is healthy if people don't feel they can just post anything and expect a payday. The lastest development will force us all to remember that we need to continually up our game. This will ensure quality is not only maintained but constantly improving which will be very good for the long term health of Steemit.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/879d1cdfd3.jpg Jeff Berwick's recommendation of steemit through his website and interviews has had an impact on the number of steemit members and its recognition. I know I am here on steemit because of Jeff's endorsement of steemit. As the general population of user's gain more Steem Power their votes will have more weight on rewards. Right now according to https://steemd.com/distribution there are 48,412 users with less than 0.01 MV while there are 782 users with 10 MV and over. Right now steemit needs the whales to spread there upvotes to more quality content providers and I see this happening more and more each day. This will empower more steemit users and build a stronger steemit community as Steem Power is spread out among a wider base of users. Overall I think the success of @dollarvigilante posts should be applauded because he has done a great job promoting steemit. Steemit is still in its infancy (in terms of internet usage/users). Given time there are great possibilities for this becoming a phenomenal community. Steem on, Mike

Hi etcmike. I agree with everything you say but if someone, everytime they post with no regard to content, gets an automatic payout I think people will question the legitimacy of this. The health of Steemit requires a quality to reward ratio. I hope you are right about the distribution of Steem Power becoming more even over time, otherwise it will feel like just another massively pre-mined crypto.

I do believe that the base of power users will spread out over time. I wasn't here in the beginning, but I imagine in the beginning of steemit only the founders had the Steem Power. To spread out the Steem Power in the beginning they probably upvoted a few lesser quality posts and comments. I also think that a few wildly successful posts also shows how one can be very successful on steemit. After all it is good advertising and gets the word out about steemit to the larger internet community. The approximate 54k users on steemit is still a drop in the bucket compared to larger internet communities. I also think that the transparency of steemit (which I really like) can have a negative effect and discourage and frustrate some steemit content providers. On YouTube for instance I can see the number of views a video gets, but I do not see the amount of ad revenue they receive. I can imagine that if we could see the amount of ad revenue each video generates there would be frustration there too. It does seem like the most outrageous video get the most views and more than likely generates a lot of ad revenue. Overall I am impressed with steemit and look forward to watching it mature into a vibrant community. Have a great day and steem on, Mike

I have two questions - why do you think Jeff's recent post was trending at $2,000 and now is where it is? Are these whales wrong to have withdrawn their upvote?

I think his initial post was trending largely because of his ability to influence his followers to come to steemit. I think it was a way of paying for his promotion and recognition of steemit. A community (or business) will not grow without promotion (i.e., people being made aware it exists). I do not know the reason why whales have withdrawn their upvote. I applaud people who stand up for their convictions and actions (even when I may strongly disagree) but not to the point of subborness. Submitting to peer pressure is not one of my strong suits. I do not think anyone should be shamed into doing something. However, if a valid argument dissuaded the whales into withdrawing their upvote, then that is just listening to reason and changing your mind. Until a whale who upvoted the post answers "why" we may never know. Without knowing I cannot say the whales were "wrong to have withdrawn their upvote". Good discussion. Got to get to work (day job), have a great day and steem on, Mike

What is the main reasoning behind the concerns? I only see value in Jeff being here. His first few posts may have been obvious or click baity but he's just doing what worked for the time being. The content will evolve I'm sure.

My concern is we have a few big names here on Steemit who just have to post something to become trending. It doesn't matter what they post. Good content or not. (I'm not saying Jeff's content wasn't good)
