Everyday new users get accounts and start their Steemit journey. Many of them don't know how to properly setup their account to start blogging. Also knowing about difference between keys is mandatory for every user.

In this tutorial I will cover these things and in some next tutorials we will go deeper into Steemit.

## Setup Steemit account

When you get/open new Steemit account it's "empty" like every new account on any network. Luckily Steemit account is easy to setup because it have only few things we need to do.

At first we need to put our profile picture, cover picture, make some short description about ourselves and enter location/website. All this is not must, but if we want to blog properly and be recognized by other Steemit people it's good to populate all this fields.

Now when our account looks nice and give information about our blog we are ready to make introduction post. When we come to new place it's normal to introduce ourself to community. That's why first post of almost every Steemian is introduction post. You can say something about yourself, your hobbies and interests, some people make photo of themselves with paper where is wrote "Steemit" and date of joining using tag #introduceyourself.

## Steemit keys

As every password this keys are most important part of Steemit account. You should know that this keys are more important than any other password you have (facebook, twitter, other social networks). Everyone should look at Steemit keys as credit card PINs. And this is true because beside blog you have your wallet. 

We have four different keys and every of them is important on some way. We should store them on safe place, some people keep it offline.

There is:
- POSTING KEY - This key allows account to post, vote, comment and follow other users. Users should use this key to logging in to Steemit every day.

- ACTIVE KEY - Active key can perform all functions except to change the owner key. It can change all other keys on an account, including the active key itself. Also active key can do transfer, trading, power up Steem Power, and voting for witnesses.

- OWNER KEY - This is most important key who need to be stored on safe place. It gives full control over your Steem account.

- MEMO KEY- Memo key is can decrypt private messages sent to your account.

For login, posting and commenting on daily basis on Steemit we use Posting key. For sending transactions we need Active key.

### Conclusion

If we setup our account according to this recommendations and storing our keys (passwords) on safe place, we are ready to focus on next thing and that is make posts and earn.

As we spend time on Steemit we can wonder to change some of this information and it could be done easily in settings page.
