Do Landscape Photographs have a Soul?

The soul of a living being weighs 21 grams, but I wonder who and what has a soul?

I wonder if a photograph can have a soul? In this opportunity, I am referring specifically to landscape images, those where there is no foreground, no pupils, no gesture and everything looks impressive and imposing, full of life.

>Me surge la duda de si una fotografía puede tener alma? En esta oportunidad, me refiero específicamente las imágenes de paisaje, esas donde no hay primer plano, no hay pupilas, gesto y todo luce impresionante e imponente, lleno de vida.

I am not going to dig into other styles, where the physical and very close presence of people, flora and fauna, immediately connect us with that life.

The answer seems logical, yes....  The question arises before the remoteness that exists in a landscape. There is a disconnection of vital signs because when we walk through an image of this style we do not recognize the names of humans, animals, plants or insects. Everything is so distant and still that the protagonist is that divergence and folklore of things that happen within the small worlds that make up the photo.



>La respuesta pareciera lógica, sí...  La interrogante surge ante la lejanía que existe en un paisaje. Hay una desconexión de los signos vitales porque al pasearnos por una imagen de este estilo no reconocemos nombre de humanos, animales, plantas o insectos. Todo está tan lejano y quieto que el protagonista es esa divergencia y folklore de cosas que suceden dentro de los pequeños mundos que componen la foto.

Landscape photography usually focuses its attention on a silhouette of nature or of the city in the middle of the environment. Here is a minimal portrait, in a landscape you see only a general shot and this is when it sounds generic, because we are sold in a compact form something that does not have a specific feature of feeling.

He allí un ínfimo retrato, en un paisaje vez solo un plano general y acá es cuando suena a genérico, porque nos venden de forma compacta algo que no tiene un rasgo específico de sentimiento.

The horizon that one appreciates is, in other words, divided into form, textures and colors. It is these characteristics, along with our preconceptions of what is beautiful or pleasing, that will cause us to feel joy, sadness or some other mood.

The landscape photographer seeks, above all, to cause nostalgia and conflict of emotions, by crafting with his or her ingenuity a photo that will cause acceptance or give a journey to the viewer.

>El fotógrafo de paisaje pretende, sobre todo, causar nostalgia y conflicto de emociones, al fabricar con su ingenio una foto que cause aceptación o dé un viaje al espectador.

I believe, with all that has been expressed, that all landscapes have souls and that they weigh much more than 21 grams, I don't know how much more, but it is more than 21. The fact is that those millions of organisms that are immersed in the photo are microscopically adding a little piece of their souls to reveal something capable of taking our breath away.

>Y yo creo que, con todo lo expuesto, que todos los paisaje tienen alma y que pesan mucho más de 21 gramos, no sé cuánto más, pero es más de 21. Lo que pasa es que esos millones de organismos que están sumergidos en la foto van sumando microscópicamente un pedacito de sus almas para revelarnos algo capaz de robarnos el aliento.

Magníficas fotos de paisajes, @miguelmederico; no podrían ser de otro modo en ti. Introduces una inquietud que, por supuesto, es muy válida, y a la que siempre, inevitablemente, se tendrán repuestas subjetivas. Creo contigo que lo que podríamos llamar **alma**, en el sentido amplio, va más allá del mero individuo humano. Es muy significativo que la palabra griega que da origen al sustantivo *alma* en griego *psyché* refiera a hálito, y es ese elemento el que impregna las mejores expresiones del arte. De modo que, en sentido figurado, también un paisaje (en físico o captado fotográficamente de modo artístico) podríamos decir que tiene "alma". Como el poema de Montejo que recita Paul Rivers (Sean Penn) a su amiga en el filme *21 gramos* de González Iñárritu. Saludos.

Ese caballo me hizo recordar que en viewbug hay un concurso de fotografía de caballos, y el premio es un lente Tamron, aquí donde vivo no tengo cerca caballos y los que hay no están en buenas condiciones porque son usados por la policía para trabajos de vigilancia, así que están un poco maltratados, pero deberías de revisar la app, puede ser que consigas un buen resultado, saludos.
