Muchas veces subestimamos el impacto que tienen ciertas imágenes en blanco y negro. Hay personas que creen que editar una foto a escala de grises solo consiste en quitarle la saturación. En ocasiones esto sí funciona, pero el 99% de los caso no.

>We often underestimate the impact of certain black and white images. There are people who believe that editing a grayscale photo only consists of removing the saturation. Sometimes this works, but 99% of the case it does not

Hoy vengo a mostrarte la transformación de una foto que le tomé al _Ávila_ (Caracas-Venezuela) mientras iba de copiloto transitando en esa ciudad. La capturé en la autopista Francisco Fajardo, al nivel del elevado que está al lado de _Los Próceres_.

>Here I come to show you the transformation of a photo I took of the _Ávila_ (Caracas-Venezuela) while I was driving in that city. I shot it on the Francisco Fajardo highway, at the level of the overpass next to _Los Próceres_.

Fíjense lo que ocurre con la foto original si solo le quitamos la saturación. Luce plana, ¿cierto? Existen sectores que debemos resaltar y otras áreas que debemos opacar. Todo dependerá de lo que queramos transmitir y a que daremos protagonismo.

En este caso, me propuse resaltar las pocas nubes y las líneas de la autopista. Para ello debía aumentar el contraste y restar la gran luminiscencia del día. Debía bajar notablemente la exposición de la foto.

>In this case, I proposed to highlight the few clouds and the lines of the highway. To do this, I had to increase the contrast and subtract the great luminescence of the day. I had to significantly lower the exposure of the photo.

El proceso de edición de cada foto es personal. Yo digo que las fotos nos hablan y nos conducen a modificarlas según lo que hemos aprendido o visto como fotógrafos. Si eligieras esta misma foto y la editaramos al mismo tiempo, al final obtendríamos resultados muy diferentes.

>The editing process of each photo is personal. I say that photos speak to us and lead us to modify them according to what we have learned or seen as photographers. If you were to choose this same photo and edit it at the same time, you would end up with very different results.

Yo fui maxificando los negros y la claridad, pero tuve que agregar unos filtros y modificar la escala lumínica de todos los colores, especialmente de los azules, para que el cielo no perdiera su lucidez. Cuando bajamos la exposición general de una foto, debemos compensar la luminancia de cada color para que el contraste que buscamos se optimice.

>I was maxing out the blacks and clarity, but I had to add some filters and modify the light scale of all the colors, especially the blues, so that the sky would not lose its lucidity. When we lower the overall exposure of a photo, we must compensate the luminance of each color so that the contrast we are looking for is optimized.

Lo único que no me gustó de esta foto que tomé en movimiento era el poste. A mi juicio desviaba un poco la atención del fondo de la montaña. Yo quería que el recorrido visual que hiciera la audiencia no se detuviera en esa parte del alumbrado público.

>The only thing I didn't like about this photo that I took in motion was the lamp post. In my opinion it diverted the attention a bit from the mountain background. I didn't want the audience's visual path to stop at that part of the street light.

Así, poco a poco, logré esta imagen super oscura pero que sigue mostrando como esas pequeñas nubes toman mayor relevancia frente a la inmensidad del _Wuaraira Repano_.
