Bonobos has a commercial out defining the word *masculine*.

In the commercial, masculine is defined as 

>  having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with men especially strength and aggressiveness

Personally I had never thought of being masculine as being aggressive.  I checked [Dictionary.com](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/masculine), the [Oxford Dictioinary](https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/masculine), [Cambridge Dictionary](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/masculine), [Merriam Webster](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/masculine), and [Collins Dictionary](https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/masculine) to find that none of them include the word *"aggressiveness"* in their definitions.  The definition is simply

> having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with men

The synonyms Bonobos listed for masculine included  macho, manly, muscular, well-built, red-blooded, strapping, strong, brawny, and powerful.  From [Thesauras.com](https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/masculine?s=t) some of the synonyms that were left out of the commercial include adult, gallant, courageous, honorable, resolute and stout-hearted.

Before we #EvolveTheDefinition why don't we start with the correct definition and not add to it.  If we are going to characterize masculinity with synonyms, let's include synonyms that portray the good side of masculinity as well. I can spend an afternoon with male friends, maybe we start with shooting guns and then move to a microbrewery for a couple of beers.  At the bar we talk about sports and maybe interact with some of the feminine patrons at the bar.  Does that make me too masculine?  What about when I go home later and cook dinner for my wife?

In this society of gender fluidity and sexual fluidity terms like masculine are not what is trying to force a particular viewpoint of being a man.  Viewpoints like those in the Bonobos commercial however are implying that being masculine is a negative that should be avoided.  If we all do exist in a gender fluid spectrum, why not accept those in the more masculine portion of the spectrum and let them be themselves.
