The Giant Cucumber
Cucumber season is over and the plants have been removed.  While I was taking the plants out I found one runner which had made it's way into other plants to get lost.  While taking the plants out I did find a few more cucumbers and at the end of the errant runner I found this huge cucumber.

I'm sure I stepped over it several times and am amazed I never saw it.  Making my way inside with this watermelon like cucumber, I got out my kitchen scale.  The cucumber weighed in at almost two and a half pounds, two pounds and seven ounces to be exact.

Even without this mighty cucumber we had plenty of cucumbers.  We made kosher dill pickles, polish dill pickles, sweet relish, and jalapeno relish from cucumbers this season.  In addition, I don't know how many cucumbers we gave away or the ones eaten raw.  It was a good year for cucumbers.

Make one hell of a pickle.  You would need a gallon jar for pickling though.

I'm sure there is a cucumber contest somewhere.

It was actually seeded and sliced up for garnish to go in bloody mary's last weekend.  Sadly, it's all gone, along with vodka, tomato juice, and assorted spices.....

The only fertilizer the garden gets is a little when I fertilize the grass in the yard.  No miracle growing here.
