Nuestros abuelos sin duda siempre van a dejar su huella en nuestras vidas... estas pueden ser positiva o incluso no tan positiva todo depende del cristal por el cual se vea, cada historia es única, hoy me uno a la [iniciativa](https://peakd.com/hive-108045/@family-friends/hivedamor-initiative-lets-talk-about-our-grandparents-iniciativa-hivedamor-hablemos-de-nuestros-abuelos) impulsada por la comunidad de @family-friends conjuntamente con el apoyo de otros proyectos la cual tiene una razón muy noble que es ayudar a los abuelitos del ***Asilo de Ancianos Santo Domingo*** así que esta es mi historia con unas de mi abuelitas, para ser más específica mi abuelita materna.

Our grandparents will undoubtedly always leave their mark on our lives... these can be positive or even not so positive, it all depends on the lens through which it is seen, each story is unique, today I join the [initiative](https://peakd.com/hive-108045/@family-friends/hivedamor-initiative-lets-talk-about-our-grandparents-iniciativa-hivedamor-hablemos-de-nuestros-abuelos) driven by the @family-friends community together with the support of other projects which has a very noble reason which is to help the grandparents of the ***Asilo de Ancianos Santo Domingo*** so this is my story with some of my grandmothers, to be more specific my maternal grandmother.

Para darle un poco de contexto iniciaré diciendo que nací en Venezuela mi padre es de nacionalidad Venezolana y mi madre de nacionalidad Ecuatoriana, en resumidas cuentas mis hermanos y yo fuimos criados lejos de nuestra familia materna y abuela  pues no existía recursos económicos para visitarlos a menudo, recuerdo que conocí a mi familia materna y abuela cuando era una adolescente pues mi madre visitó a Ecuador junto a nosotros (mi hermana y yo) cuando cumplí 18 años y mi hermana 17 años fue la única vez que aún estando bajo la tutela de nuestros padres viajamos fuera de Venezuela, nuestra estadía en Ecuador para entonces fue de 3 meses sin embargo es difícil en 3 meses recuperar el tiempo perdido durante tantos años y aunque fue grato conocer la  familia de mi madre faltó tiempo, mucho más tiempo para conocerlos mejor.

To give you some context I will start by saying that I was born in Venezuela, my father is Venezuelan and my mother is Ecuadorian, in short my siblings and I were raised far away from our maternal and grandmother's family because there were no economic resources to visit them often, I remember that I met my maternal family and grandmother when I was a teenager because my mother visited Ecuador with us (my sister and I) when I turned 18 years old and my sister 17 years old was the only time that even being under the guardianship of our parents we traveled outside of Venezuela, our stay in Ecuador at that time was 3 months, however it is difficult in 3 months to recover the time lost during so many years and although it was nice to meet my mother's family we lacked time, much more time to get to know them better.

No fue hasta el año 2017 cuando decidí migrar a Ecuador junto a mi esposo que tuve la oportunidad de comenzar a compartir y conocer más a la familia de mi madre así como  mi abuelita Luisa, pues aunque mi esposo y yo teníamos en mente originalmente vivir en la capital de Ecuador la familia de mi madre insistió en que era mejor idea vivir acá en la costa (Manta) pues así ellos nos podían brindar su apoyo y en efecto así hicimos para la tranquilidad de mi madre quien no quería que migraramos de Venezuela, ya que ella por experiencia propia sabe lo difícil que esto puede resultar,  así que mi abuelita Luisa fue quien nos recibió y acogió en su casa y vivimos con ella por un lapso de 3 meses.

It was not until 2017 when I decided to migrate to Ecuador with my husband that I had the opportunity to begin to share and get to know more of my mother's family as well as my grandmother Luisa, because although my husband and I originally had in mind to live in the capital of Ecuador my mother's family insisted that it was a better idea to live here on the coast (Manta) so they could give us their support and indeed so we did for the tranquility of my mother who did not want us to migrate from Venezuela, since she by her own experience knows how difficult this can be, so my grandmother Luisa was who received and welcomed us in her house and we lived with her for a period of 3 months.

Nunca había imaginado vivir con mi abuelita materna 😅😍 ella es una mujer fuerte e independiente pues vivía sola ya que tenías años de haber enviudado, recuerdo que realizaba sus cosas de manera independiente (cocinar, tener en orden su casa y lavar su ropa) la verdad que para la edad que tenía para entonces estaba bastante lúcida y fuerte bastante admirable, durante el tiempo que vivimos con ella la conocí un poco mejor así como su historia, lo que le gustaba comer y lo que no, recuerdo que cuando comencé a vivir junto a ella me hice cargo de cocinar yo, lo cual era muy gracioso porque mi abuela es bastante tradicional así que solo come comida típica de acá Ecuador y de la zonas costera, así que me tocó adaptarme a cocinar más al estilo de acá y cuando cocinaba comida típica de Venezuela pues realizaba 2 menú paralelamente 😅🤣 y aunque le daba de probar jejeje no eran de su agrado pues está más acostumbrada a comer pescado, la carne en definitiva no le gusta y el pollo medianamente lo pasa en sopa jejeje fue toda una experiencia 🤣😅😁 vivir con ella y mi esposo fue una experiencia no solo grata sino también de crecimiento personal aunque no lo crean, pues ante de vivir con ellos aunque cocinaba bien no lo hacía frecuentemente por mis estudios y trabajo así que fue con ellos dos con quién comencé a cocinar seguidamente 😅💕😊que para ser honesta no es algo que haya generado  molestia o incomodidad la verdad que disfrute mucho vivir junto a ella esos primeros 3 meses acá el cariño que se cultivo entre ambas fue muy bonito y hoy por hoy agradezco haberla conocido y seguir compartiendo con ella.

I had never imagined living with my maternal grandmother 😅😍 she is a strong and independent woman because she lived alone since she was widowed years ago, I remember that she did her things independently (cooking, keeping her house in order and washing her clothes) the truth is that for the age she was then she was quite lucid and strong, quite admirable, During the time we lived with her I got to know her a little better as well as her history, what she liked to eat and what not, I remember that when I started living with her I was in charge of cooking, which was very funny because my grandmother is quite traditional so she only eats typical food from here in Ecuador and the coastal areas, so I had to adapt myself to cook more like here and when I cooked typical food from Venezuela, I had 2 menus in parallel 😅🤣 and although I gave her a taste hehehehe they were not to her liking because she is more used to eating fish, she doesn't like meat and chicken is usually served in soup hehehehehe it was quite an experience 🤣😅😁 living with her and my husband was an experience not only pleasant but also of personal growth even if you don't believe it, because before living with them although I cooked well I did not do it frequently because of my studies and work so it was with them two with whom I started to cook 😅💕😊 which to be honest is not something that has generated discomfort or discomfort the truth is that I really enjoyed living with her those first 3 months here the love that grew between us was very nice and today I am grateful to have met her and continue to share with her.

Algo que nos gustaba hacer era ir al parque con ella y disfrutar de par de helados, sin duda fueron unos meses increíble pero como todo en la vida cada ciclo tiene un comienzo y un fin así que mi esposo y yo gracias a Dios al lapso de esos 3 meses decidimos ya alquilar una casa de manera independiente pues ambos ya estábamos trabajando, quedó un lindo lazo con mi abuela pues nos acostumbramos ir a visitarla los fines de semana y siempre llevarle algo que le gustara comer, ya desde entonces casi 5 años, en la actualidad mi abuelita ya no es tan independiente como lo solía ser... por lo que ya no vive sola ni en lo que solía ser su  casa, vive en la actualidad con una de mis tías, y allá es ahora donde todos mis otros tíos y mi persona la vamos a visitar, hablar y compartir con ella.

Something we liked to do was to go to the park with her and enjoy a couple of ice creams, without a doubt they were incredible months but like everything in life every cycle has a beginning and an end so my husband and I thank God after those 3 months we decided to rent a house independently because we were both working, we had a nice bond with my grandmother because we got used to visit her on weekends and always bring her something she liked to eat, since then almost 5 years, now my grandmother is not as independent as she used to be. ... so she no longer lives alone or in what used to be her home, she now lives with one of my aunts, and that is now where all my other uncles and I go to visit her, talk and share with her.

Ahora bien en lo personal nunca eh sido participe de dejar a los abuelitos en asilos y menos cuando tienen familia grande, mi abuela es madre de 12 hijos y en la actualidad 7 aún están vivos así que para mí eso no tendría sentido y siendo honesta de haber sido el asilo una opción para mis tíos, considero que me la hubiera traído a vivir conmigo, pues siento que en un asilo se sentiría sola y triste no le darían los gusto que a ella le gusta, como salir a caminar, comer lo que le gusta o disfrutar de un helado...  aparte que ella cuando recuerda a sus hijos que han muerto se pone triste y llora mucho, no creo que en un asilo le den el consuelo que ella necesita, siempre diré que su lugar es junto a la familia, pues nuestros abuelos hicieron todo lo que estaba en su alcance para sacar su familia adelante así que lo más adecuado es que ahora sea la familia quién vea por ellos, sus necesidades económicas, afectivas y emocionales  así como darle tiempo de calidad.

Now personally I have never been a participant in leaving grandparents in nursing homes and even less when they have a large family, my grandmother is the mother of 12 children and currently 7 are still alive so for me that would not make sense and being honest if the nursing home had been an option for my uncles, I think I would have brought her to live with me, because I feel that in a nursing home she would feel alone and sad they would not give her the pleasure she likes, like going for a walk, eating what she likes or enjoying an ice cream. ... besides, when she remembers her children who have died she gets sad and cries a lot, I don't think that in a nursing home they will give her the comfort she needs, I will always say that her place is with her family, our grandparents did everything in their power to bring their family forward, so the most appropriate thing is that now it is the family who looks after them, their economic, emotional and affective needs as well as giving them quality time.

Hoy por hoy mi abuelita está feliz de conocerme mejor y todo lo que hemos vivido así como conocer a mi hija, sin duda es un dicha que mi hija conozca a su bisabuela y disfrute de ella, así mismo espero más adelante poder ir  a Venezuela para que mi hija conozca a sus abuelos tanto maternos como paternos ya que las relaciones abuelos nietos es tan única y especial,  sé que mis padres y suegros le darán mucho amor a su nieta y ella a ellos, como siempre eh dicho los abuelos siempre serán más consentidores que los padres, ya que la responsabilidad que criar y corregir corresponde a nosotros como padres, pero todos sabemos que nuestros abuelos siempre nos brindan sabios consejos y son unos grandes guías durante nuestra vida a medida que crecemos espero que mi hija pueda disfrutar de ellos durante su infancia, adolescencia y parte de su vida adulta.

Today my grandmother is happy to know me better and all that we have lived as well as to know my daughter, without a doubt it is a joy that my daughter knows her great-grandmother and enjoy it, I also hope later to go to Venezuela for my daughter to meet her grandparents both maternal and paternal since the grandparents grandchildren relationship is so unique and special, I know that my parents and in-laws will give much love to her granddaughter and she to them, As I have always said grandparents will always be more nurturing than parents, since the responsibility to raise and correct corresponds to us as parents, but we all know that our grandparents always give us wise advice and are great guides during our lives as we grow up, I hope my daughter can enjoy them during her childhood, adolescence and part of her adult life.
